Thanks, guys. No sooner had I posted the above than I realised what the issue was all sorted now.

What is not clear is whether this is because (a) there is no money available for the boiler or (b) there is some, but just not enough, money available for the boiler, in which case how much is the shortfall?

Out of curiosity - not being someone accustomed to buying loco boilers - what is the current 'ball-park' figure for a new MW boiler please?

 

Will they afford two boilers and an overhaul for the Baldwin?

 

In theory, there should be more than enough money from LYN's steaming fees to cover LYN's overhaul; however, I can't give you an answer to the cost of the two boilers since I am not aware of any costs being made public. I would just hope that those finances are already in place.

Building these Manning Wardles is most definitely a Marmite project; some stakeholders want to see this happen, while others, for their own reasons, can't see the point.

One thing which a lot of people get confused with is that they think the L&BR Trust is running this part of the project, which it is not; the 762Club is a separate charity with no membership, but it relies on people agreeing to become stakeholders.

Now, before anyone jumps down my throat and tells me that a stakeholder is a member, then think again. As I have been contacted in the past by other former stakeholders who are not happy with the lack of public accountability of the 762 Club. And to be honest, I agree with that. However, I think I should leave it there for now.

All I will say for now is that those people who have created this situation need to stand up and take responsibility for it, and I dare say call an AGM at a time and place where most stakeholders can attend and ask any questions and get any actions that need to be carried out done at the time.

For what it is worth, there is also a certain amount of fallout due to the L&BR itself not having extended over the past few years, but that, as they say, is a totally different ball game.

 

Is it coincidence that we're hearing muttering about the new builds just after peace has broken out between the other L&B organisations?

 

Could I suggest that you go to the L&BR website, click ABOUT, click L&B Railway Trust from the dropdown menu then scroll down to L&BRT Organisation Relationships, to myself it looks like the 762 club is an independant organisation which is asset locked to the L&BR Trust but of course that assumtion could be wrong

 

There has been a lot of water gone under that proverbial bridge, some of it very good and some not so. I would suggest that no one shoots this messenger, but I refer you to read the following and then to make up your own mind.

From the comments I have received. I don't think anyone wants to take over the 762 club, but they do expect those who are running it to be accountable to the stakeholders; that is what I have been getting from several of them over the Years.

I will leave you all to read the Charity Commission entry page about the 762 Club and then come back to me and tell me what you think.

Those links go to Companies House and the Charity Commission - are you asking us to read everything on those sites to try to work out what you think the problem is?

 

All I could see from those is that the filing is up to date. Nothing to see; move on. If you want to create a stink, go and look at the Teifi Valley Railway.
So I'm left to conclude that maybe he doesn't like the individuals who are named as trustees.

What 'accountability' do you want? You either support this sort of charity by donating to it, or you don't. Having a large 'membership' with all the costs that go with that is not necessarily in the interests of getting the project done. And I can think of other charities which are set up in the same way and are perfectly successful at raising large sums of money without the donors demanding some kind of involvement.

 

There is a back story here, and much of it can be pieced together upthread. As for whether a project should be run in any particular way, the core question here is about whether the project is being run in line with the commitments made to subscribers - and what any deviations may mean for a) the 762 Club and b) the L&BRT.

 

All I had in mind was that, with minimal strife now among the other organisations and therefore little scandal to peddle, that might have caused the focus to shift to the 762 club. For the avoidance of doubt, I have no quarrel with any of them.

 

The growing calm is welcome. But, if I may mix my metaphors, the Augean stables weren't cleaned in a day and the outbreak of peace and proper governance doesn't mean all issues are fixed.

There has to be accountability of some sort, if you have paying members/shareholders or whatever you want to call them, if you are spending their monies you should be accountable for your decisions and be open and willing to answer questions that are raised, if questions arent answered or you treat those members ect with contempt then the money dries up and those people walk away.

 

Yes maybe the wind of change is starting to blow away the cobwebs
