Not quite. The trial will prove the sustainability really. If it’s a success that makes the right ammount of money then it can be looked at from a more paid staff type operation which of course is a game changer. I think it will be well patronised

I think some credit ought to be given that the way this has been set up and the due diligence done means it is financially worthwhile for the railway . Gus and all involved will have taken a very measured approach to this trial and the potential future

Having retired 14 years ago and hence somewhat out of touch, what is the view in this country about people leaving work to get a specific public transport service?
When I used to visit Boeing a lot it was very common for half a meeting to stand up at 16:00 (as they all started so early) and leave due to travel/car pool requirements as that activity was fully supported by the company. Such activity in the UK that I witnessed at my suppliers, and especially at my company, would have led to the suggestion that you will be better off working elsewhere if you adopted that activity. Many times I witnessed car pool members waiting over an hour for someone to get away. Have attitudes changed post Covid?
It becomes easier if this actually became more than two trains each way, because even hourly you have a way of getting back to Bewdley, especially if say WMT were operating it.
But I must admit I can not see how such a limited trial can produce a worthwhile result as it would certainly not be the sort of thing I would risk using.

Practices vary between employers. But, generally, there is increasing tolerance that in normal circumstances, employees should be able to get away at the time required to meet their other commitments rather than wait regardless of necessity

I think it also depends on the responsibility of the person. In the company where I work, there is no hesitation, the office staff just stop at the official end of the day. By three minutes past the hour all you could see was dust settling in the car park.
Since COVID the working from home has blurred a bit the definite end of the day, but by 15 minutes past the numbers online plummet.
On the other hand the more senior staff are pulled around all hours of the day and the Japanese (and now Chinese) culture almost dictates longer hours. Meetings start at 7:30 am and if you need anything from the Americas you can find yourself still going at 9pm.
    Only 1072 days to go...

Any early indications on likely loco roster for Lego weekend? Likely coming over for this.

Appreciate with lineside conditions and loco availability it will possibly be subject to change!

    Current plan for Saturday is 7714, 13268 and 813 for S1, S2 and N1 respectively, with 50033 on S3.
Sunday is 20048 instead of 813
Very subject to change. Everyone do some rain dances, please.

An excellent family day out on the valley yesterday, the Lego exhibition was very enjoyable too.
3 steam and one diesel running, packed trains full of tourists and families - it was the SVR doing what it does best. Must admit I thought we were going to struggle to get a seat at times.
SVR engineering must have incredible confidence in their spark arresting equipment, however gingerly the steam locos were being driven!! I don't think I have ever seen the lineside that parched and yellow / brown. I am not going to complain about getting some miles in behind 813 and 7714 though, especially with the pannier not having long left on it's ticket.
The class 50 was the opposite, the handle wide open up Eardington bank - great fun!!

    from Kidderminster

I have looked at the loco roster but its not that easy to understand

    Tuesday 4th August 2026
    CN1: D9551

    CS1: 7714

    CS2 13268 on 11:00 Kr-Bh then D821 on 1450 ex-Bh

    CS3 D821 on 11:45 Kr-Bh then 13268 on 1405 ex-Bh

So 821 is on the 'diesel' 11.45 ex Kidderminster 14.50 Bridgenorth, 13268 on the 10.55 ex Kidderminster & 14.05 ex Bridgenorth

Pannier on 10.15 Kidderminster & 12.30 Bridgenorth, rest is the Class 14?

Pannier is booked as 10.15 ex KR, 12.30 ex BH, 14.15 ex KR and 16.15 ex BH.
D9551 is 10.45 ex BH, 12.40 ex KR, 13.50 ex HY and 15.45 ex KR.
The caveat being whether we are still running steam by Tuesday...

Luckily, nothing other than trackside seems to have been damaged. The lack of wind (as seen in the video) almost certainly helped there.

TBC at the moment. D9551 and D821 were booked anyway, the other two will depend on who is available to cover and what they sign.
