for someone so bitter, you don't miss a chance to have a dig . I'm also not sure running a farcebook group that gives the impression of both involvement , an active society and now offering 6024 branded products is not an especially good look . Quite what LSL would make would be interesting

Can i point out that any funds from the sale of mugs with the king on it or anything else All the money taken from the sale are going to pancreatic cancer uk after shirley had this horrible illness .and i feel she can be a upset after what happened with the king and the way it was removed from the society care after all the years like me spent caring for the locomotive.

credit where it is due , an earlier post does say this , but a header pic for a society that no longer exists and a tag line of supporting the engine is still questionable

shirley and all involved ought to have appreciated they were investing a lot of their time and energy in a locomotive that was no longer theirs . There were already warnings with 5029 . What happened was always the risk whatever they thought the agreement was

In no way was I having a 'dig' as you put it. I was just suggesting that it wasnt worthwhile driving several hours up to Norfolk from Wiltshire, when the locomotive would not be run at her best on a fairly non incline railway that is all. Also, I have NEVER on the FB page suggested any involvement with the locomotive since it went to Crewe as you would see if you read any of my comments to people asking about her whereabouts and at what stage she was at currently. As to the products. I had some spare mugs and water bottles left over from another project and thought that maybe some of the people who like and follow 6024 would perhaps like to have one with ALL profits going to The Pancreatic Cancer charity. You don't know this but in 2023 I spent 11 months in hospital, had 2/3 of my pancreas removed due to a tumour on it, literally thought I was coming out of there in a box and recently was diagnosed also as a result with type 3c diabetes, so I have had quite a lot on my plate as it were. All I want to do is raise some funds for more research into Pancreatic Cancer, and if some want to have a mug or a water bottle with one of my own 6024 pictures on it then I am happy to take their donation.

I'm very pleased you have survived pancreatic cancer and very sorry that was a life experience you had to go through . A good friend died of it and i know how absolutely horrible it is

I also know the commitment steam engines create and whilst the outcome was not what the former society volunteers wanted I hope with the engine back in steam you can find a peace and an enjoyment of the engine in its new life

I am sure I shall. Its been a horrid experience but at the end of the day all I want is to see her back out doing what she does best. I like others only want the best for her ultimately.

    It's not really king-specific, but...
Looking at that pic, do they really leave number plates, control rods etc on when painting? I would have thought access and lack of requirement to mask would be easier painting it with them removed.

Or is that modernthink, and do the wizened elves of the paintshop simply rely on the magic of bristle and turpentine?

I think the numbeplate is just attached to the lamp bracket with wires, at least for the photo anyways

I think you maybe miss the point of the post which is both a tease but also photographic grey which was very much a steam era thing

Is there a good spot where they can pose it for a black & white 'works photo'?

    That's not my point.
If I'm painting anything, I remove anything I can that might not like painting. In this case the cab number plate and whatever the operating rod is visible in the picture.

So what comes off for painting and what doesn't?

That’s the Sanding Linkage. Good luck taking all that off and putting it back on after painting with everything else done. End up scratching more than it’s worth!

is that in 12 inches to the foot scale ? its a bit hard to dismantle back to components for painting at that scale !

number plates, nameplates, shed plated will come off . possibly safety valve cover
