LE movements, ECS and test runs 2026

Found on Real Times trains a bizarre movement that seems to show a LSL loco entering Carnforth Steamtown next week. Seems to only be there briefly but still is very unusual.

There's a 5Z41 Crewe LSL - Carnforth loops and 5Z44 return that day, both pathed for 60mph. Steam loco going in for turning/watering?

 

That's what it looks like. Test run for 70000 perhaps, although why not use the regular Chester paths? Maybe it indicates a thaw in relations between LSL and WCR. If so, that's a welcome development, but I wouldn't count on it. We shall have to wait and see.

Will LSL have 2 steam locos out on test on the same day?
6024 KE1 out in the morning to Preston and back, as well as this one?

 

I don't think the Preston trip is steam. 0Z31 and 0Z32, to and from Preston are pathed as "light locomotive" and "electric locomotive 75 mph max". I don't think it will be the King. I'd heard that it was in the paint shop.

 

5M50 Carnforth to Hellifield GL has just been activated as has 5D41 Crewe to Chester (70000 light test run).

That's handy, I'm in my caravan at High Bentham, but I suspect 'er indoors has summat organised.
I've not opened me sealed orders yet!!

 

The interesting thing is what work the 8f will be put to once recertified. Ideal for the S&C Dalesmans, if there is compatible stock available of course.

 

Also the perfect loco to work to/from Sellafield on The Cumbrian Coast Express on 27th June.

 

Coincidentally facebook reminded me with a photo I took 12 years ago yesterday of the 8f in Carlisle with Gordon Hodgson on the footplate

Very exciting to see 48151 back on the mainline. There's something about seeing a 8F on the mainline that feels so special.
