Wasn't this a one off for Bernard Staite's birthday train? Not sure she did anything else at a higher speed.

Not really. The weights were within plates riveted over a set number of spokes and then the lead-antimony weight poured in to a pre-determined weight. The number of spokes covered did not change to suit the amount of lead added.

I often wonder why the 4 Scottish Regiment named Black fives 45154/6/7/8 were transferred from 65B St Rollox to 26A Newton heath .Maybe it was to remove all the domeles boiler locos from Scotland. But then there were plenty of others to choose from including 45155.A swap round of 5Xs was done in the early 1950s ,throat plate fireboxes for slopping .Rare machines from Perth ,Kingmore and Polmadie were sent to the Midland ,common as muck Kentish Town /Nottingham etc were sent North, much to the enjoyment of spotters.45156 was borrowed to work Midland locals ,theY manage to run it hot .Photted at 15A Wellingborogh shed with the centre wheels out on 8/4/1959.

An odd quirk, this being the 10A thread, is that the 3 5s now under WC ownership each have different boiler configurations.
