37025 back in service at Bo'ness

The loco is back inservice at Bo'ness minus its water tank for now.
The STG loco will be running at Bo'ness until its new bogies are available for mainline running again.

Dont know if many have been watching the Quest series, with Francis Bourguois and Chris Harris, but another way to expose preservation to the masses.

Please do not pre-judge, as the pairs efforts do make a tangible difference to the project.

The series with Francis and Chris has been very well received with very little negative comments.
I would love the production company to put together a compilation of the outtakes.
The last seven or eight months have been a pleasure and hilarious to work work with this team along with all of the volunteers at Bo'ness.

Onwards and upwards with 37025 and the SRPS Mark 1 CDL fitted coaches.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this series, such a shame for the failure on 025 at the last moment though. Chris and Francis, I thought, worked well together and the program was entertaining and informative.

 

I found Harris the most watchable of the later Top Gear trio - far more than McGuinness and Flintoff, who were just plain irritating.

I'll try and watch that sometime

 

In another life before TV fame !
For no other reason than I took this almost 42 years ago to the day on 26/5/84 (some here may find that week/end familiar). 37025 approaching the last token exchange at Lentran before arriving at Inverness with a mixed train from Wick and Thurso. The second man is already hanging the token out of the cab.

 

One of March's finest, 45 years ago 025 was a stalwart of Liverpool Street - Cambridge trains...

 

What do you think of the scene when Francis got a whiteboard out., and in a fine felt tip pen, listed every single class 37 by number? He then went on to outline them all, with a little cameo of each, to Chris , who was nodding off?
Francis, no fool, noticed this, and asked: Would you like me to go faster?

That had me in stitches!

 

The thing that annoyed me about the series, was on the various occasions when Francis was trying to point out the finer points of the sound produced by the 37, it was drowned out by the background music. I enjoyed it apart from that.

 

The scene on Glenfinnan viaduct was an absolute classic...Harris was genuinely speechless! Will let others discover that gem..if you tried to describe it people wouldn't believe you!!

It was an excellent series, the 2 work really well together and seemed to have a genuine rapport. Say what you like about Francis, he knows he railways inside out, back to front or any other way you want it! Really hope they do a second series, they didn't try and dumb things down and instead looked to explain technical things in a good / fun way.

They also had some excellent trips 'away' from the project to add context, the series seemed to have 'time' for this - so many railway programmes seem rushed these days. The Guy Martin 'Railway 200' programme being a prime example - really did feel like 200 years of history in 40 minutes..

Im all for anything that breaks down boundaries and makes the world of railway preservation more accessible - more of the same please!

 

The thing I found funny on the Guy Martin programme was when Guy addressed Prince Edward as "mate".
When I was trainspotting at York in the 1970s (on the original number series), I didn't think of the 37s as being anything special, just a smaller version of a 40.
Looking at the picture on post #4 above, did the 37s originally have double doors on the ends, so the crew could move from one loco to the other when running double headed?

 

They did, hence the split headcode boxes. Later 37s omitted the doors and thus had a single headcode box.
