The 50th Anniversary

 

Yes, that sounds about right. Back in the 1950s and 60s my grandfather was a coal merchant, he picked up the coal from the DVLR and delivered it around the local villages and farms. My memory of it was that all the trains was operated by a class 04 diesel that they hired from BR. Back in the distant past there was a passenger service, but it wasn't helped by most of the stations being a long way from the villages they served.

 

I know it's been closed for ages & unlikely to reopen but does anyone know what's likely to happen to the remaining stock at elsecar?

Believe there's a shunter & some freight stock still on site. Pity that the council saw fit to close it.

Sadly it's 1 that I think we've lost for good.
