Paid my first ever visit to Ruislip today. Very impressive railway, and really good volunteers - all keen, friendly and communicative.

Only downside is the cost of parking - nearly £20 if staying for more than three hours and not a local resident. I gather this is set by the local authority, who presumably want to do everything they can to discourage visitors. Unfortuantely, that means today is likely to also be my last visit!

 

Don't say that! There is a cheaper car park in St. Martin's Approach just off Ruislip High Street. If you feel energetic enough you could walk to the Lido from there; if not you can catch a bus from the High Street. The H13 goes right up to the Lido, and the 331 stops on the main road near the Reservoir Road turning, so a couple of minutes walk to the Lido.

I am sure you are correct, but I had two elderly people with me who could not walk far. Nearly £20 parking is a show stopper, and it certainly meant that we didn;t buy rover tickets - what was the point when there was only time (in the afforadable parking window) for a there and back trip. It's a shame, but clearly the Council do not want non-local residents using their facilities. Fine, their choice, I won't.

 

Is not the bus atop for the H13 actually nearer than the car park. Seem to remember it was when we lived in the LBH.

The H13 stop is almost opposite the larger car park which is across the the road. However, both are further to walk to Willow Lawn Station than the Willow Lawn car park which is right next to Willow Lawn Station. If you're walking across the dam to the beach and Woody Bay Station, then the outside car park and bus stop might be nearer, but I've never timed it. There can't be much in it though.

 

Perhaps they feel that as Hillingdon residents are paying for the cost of running the Lido through their Council Tax, they should get a discount on the car park charges. I don't know, I don't live there any more. Don't forget that the entrance to the Lido is free, and most people go there for a day on the beach or a walk round the lake. Perhaps by London standards twenty quid is no more than small change - one of our daughters lives in London and whenever I gasp at the cost of something, she just says "that's normal for London!"
