Anybody aware of what's meant to be on the Welsh Marches to Cardiff next Wednesday?

linked in post #161 above . in theory it won't be 34046 (southall) 60007 (WSR) or 5029 (out of gauge Shrewsbury ?) . 70000 possibly receiving TLC after its travails a week or so back . 6024 you would presume is also out of the reckoning as not test run yet .

    So that leaves 60532 , 71000 and 61306

The return goes through the down main middle road at Shrewsbury and uses 7 on the outward, I don't believe 7 is used when they run the Welsh Marches to Shrewsbury and 5029 ran through there last April on a loco move to Bristol, however not sure which line, hope's hoping!

61306 is at Southall, runs to the WSR next Friday and 71000 tours are listed on the locos website, however this trip is not listed.

Vintage Trains have run Castles down the Welsh Marches on a number of occasions, but tend to use the Shrewsbury avoiding curve.

Yes, I think the question in mind was whether it would have a minder, and then what it leaves at Crewe for the following day.

Hoping for 5029 or 60532 on the Marches. The Castle is obviously appropriate, but AH Peppercorn was born at Stoke Prior, just outside Leominster and there is a plaque to that effect at the station!
I don’t understand this gauging issue at Shrewsbury: is it just Platforms 4 &/or 7? And why when all those Birmingham suburban stations and the routes up north are apparently clear for them?

I understand platform 4, as trains coming from Hereford join it at an angle, with the point being at the end of the platform. I have seen steam locos joining the platform and it is...tight! Anything with a bit of an overhang or wider cylinders could be in trouble here. It isn't a new issue either, I remember being on a Welsh Marches trip behind 6024 many years ago, we went through the station on the middle road and reversed back into platform 4.
Platform 7 could be similar for trains coming from Crewe, but I think the point is off the end of the Platform here.
Shrewsbury is a constrained station generally with a substantial part of the station built on a bridge over the River Severn.

Yes, thanks, I know the station very well, and that certainly fits the layout at the north end.
But it long used to accommodate the biggest locos of both the GWR and the LMS - until recently. I personally have been through it behind 46245, 6000, (4)6201 and various others.
It still hosts a variety of different trains including regular 67 hauled trains of ex East coach stock and steel trains. Now it has trouble with one of the most previously familiar classes through it, whilst most of the rest of the system and many preserved lines have no trouble with Castles or other previously heavily restricted class 7s and 8s.
A few minutes with a cold chisel seems a small price to remove this strange restriction!
