Further nerding The tender I believe was loaned to the NYMR a few years ago and ran behind 44806.

Thing is does Ian really need another right now, as much as we know how fond he is of them?

He's already got 44871 and 45407 up and running, 45212 is (I think) expected to be overhauled and operated by Riley's again and they also have the agreement to help restore and eventually run 45163 as well.

And Shaw Savill is finally making good progress. I can see a few parties potentially wanting it but do they need it? In terms of mainline, WCRC has two it hasn't outshopped, Hosking has plenty of locomotives in various states of operation. VT are all about Halls and Castles. So on that logic, other preserved railways?

What about sending 45491 up to Ruddington on the G.C.R.N. its neighbour or does that also have financial ties with G.C.R. Loughborough would this be a viable option?
If not as well I saw that the 1st time this was announced about 45491 black 5 in 2025 earlier in the year the news broke out about it on the unofficial Llangollen railways facebook page about the late summer it was announced that G.C.R. Loughborough dident want the black 5 anymore at Loughborough M.P.D. Southend the owner is either been forced to sell 45491 or transfer it to another heritage line who are willing to complete the overhaul and run her in costs permitting I guess whichever heritage railway took 45491 under its wing it would have the same issue whoever bought it or which heritage railway the owner took it for new custodian ship.
It did seem like someone on the Llangollen railway was offering to buy it to rescue it or that they were just making a public appeal to Joe public railway enthusiasts is there any way to save 45491 other than it to be repurposed as razorblades which I suppose most of the group involved in the sale of 45491 don't want to happen only as a last resort we surely don't want another binbrook 42859 scenario in the preservation world even for use as spares would be more viable than scrapping poor 45491?
Or better still see it run for the 1st time in preservation.

Trouble is it strikes me this is rather more complex than some believe . the nature of the sale and the confidence that the buyer will have full title without any recourse back to the original owner may be a looming question. Secondly the engine has been under restoration for 30 years . What audit trail and evidence may be available to the new owner to understand the work done . There are warning signs from others on this thread and worst case it maybe you pretty much start again

I well remember the owner in the days at Butterley which would have been 1990's . Full credit to him for taking the challenge on with limited support but it does come across that it has all been done pretty much solo which was how he wanted to do it .

Juts wondered if there is any update on this loco?

I know the GCR had a 'viewing day' in late Jan and I think potential bidders had until the end of Jan to submit bids?
45491 isn't in the shed at Loughborough any longer - but is it stored somewhere else on the line? Or has it gone?

    Thanks

I thought I saw something earlier in the year that it had moved to the shed at Swithland, but whether it's still there I'm not sure.
