Which only goes to show how completely out of touch with the membership they are - and similarly how far removed from reality those clowns who have nominated it are - presumably a bunch of telephone sanitisers, hairdressers and estate agents etc filling the B-Ark......

Just think of the use that trophy could be put to, if they win that is. It could save as much as £3.50 on material costs if used to prop up a small part of bridge 42. This would leave a mere £249,996.50 to find...

As for Moors Line magazine the only accolade if is currently fit for would be the Ministry of Propaganda self promotion cup.

The current management at NYMR Towers are only deserving of one order - the order of the boot.

This is hilarious, @60044 these awards don’t have nominations, this is an awards ceremony which is a big scam. No one nominates anyone, the organisation pays for entry. I had one ring me for my business, I told them no thanks, clearly the NYMR management doesn’t have that sense and needed something to massage their ego. Entry has nothing to do with merit, it’s all about paying to enter - https://www.communicatemagazine.com...nications-and-engagement-awards/fees-payment/

    Also see here - https://www.communicatemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/ICE-2026_Entry-guide.pdf

    No nominations!!!

That's not hilarious. That's shameful and embarrassing. Constantly begging for money then paying to enter a pointless award ceremony. That's appalling and willy waving of the highest order.

The hilarious part was posting on social media portraying that they had achieved something when the reality is they got the cheque book out thinking no one would realise. It sums up the incompetence of the management to a tee.

You are right though, it’s concerning someone thought this was a good idea when asking everyone to put their hands in their pockets to keep the railway going.

That's not "hilarious"; I'm wavering between 'infuriating' and 'unbearably sad'. Because the line really is in a bad corner, and, as you observe, this is a pretty telling insight into who's minding the store.

Doubly so when the feedback on Moors Line is so consistently poor

Again, read what I said to @5944 which is it was the act of putting it on social media and pretending they achieved something and wouldn’t get caught with their pants down that was hilarious.

I quite agree it’s bad, much like the magazine.

If they win, I'm sure it will make a nice two-page spread in the magazine noting the triumph!

Awards like that seem to spring from a perceived lack of self-worth you get in some communications teams, as if they constantly need to validate that they are providing useful service. (*) At one point we had a communications director who liked to have a spread in publications of how much our railway was being covered by the external press. Now, I have no doubt that keeping an eye on that was a way of seeing whether you were being effective in communications terms, but it seemed very self-referential to use space in your communications channels to run an article that was basically "look at how effective our communications channels are".

Still, looking at just how many awards there are, I doubt anyone goes home empty-handed, even if you do end up winning the magazine equivalent of the "Best location catering on a foreign-language documentary" award at the Oscars ...

(*) And clearly my view is that in general, communications is a useful function, but it is one of those things where generally you notice most only when it is being done badly - few people notice good communications, but most people can feel the impact when it is done badly.

Was there an actual ceremony with members of staff attending and needing food and accommodation?

Good news! The total raised for Bridge 42 has finally been updated for the first time in 3 weeks. It now stands at £220,000 - up from £215,000. Five thousand pounds, a little over £300 a day. I really hope that's an error.

Services this weekend have been formed of 4 coaches, and apparently some have been full and standing. Next weekend, as children start to go back to school, the service doubles.

The whole point of these events is for the publisher to sell seats at the awards dinner. The "basic" package is for a table for 10 at £3490, which gets the lucky attendee the following:
    • Pre-dinner drinks reception for all guests
    • Table of 10
    • Three-course dinner
    • Half a bottle of wine per person
    • Mineral water
    • Book of the night for each table guest
    • Full set of any trophies won
If you pay more, you can get a more elaborate package - the "platinum" is a mere £4650 and "Platinum Plus" (for £5625) gets you 5 tickets to ICE Live (no, that isn't Trump's ICE!).

    All prices are ex-VAT...

Clucking bell (or something similar). I only had a quick skim read earlier, when it said price per entrant I thought that meant per organisation, not per person attending!

No, the £195 is per entry - the dinner is where the money is. And having run a bar at a local paper awards event, it will be a very wet evening

The cheapest price is £3,490 for a table for 10. That's £349 each. One heck of an expensive dinner.

Well I hope that someone is going to tell the local press about it, it is the sort of information that really needs to come to light. Hard times - what hard times?

So if the NYMR were to attend it sounds like by the end of the evening it might not just be Bridge 42 in need of propping up

If I was someone who supported the NYMR financially (membership, donation, future legacy), and if the reports above regarding the cost of getting involved in with this "awards ceremony" are correct, I do not think I would be likely to continue with any such support in the future.

It's obviously academic, as I don't give money to the NYMR, but there's probably a few people wondering about their financial commitment to the railway at the moment.
