GER/LNER Y5 Coffee Pot 229

Recently returned to steam, this is currently on display outside Liverpool Street Station for two days only. Possibly the First time in steam on GER territory since 1917, when it was sold to Chepstow docks?

(Apologies if a thread exists for this already - nothing came up in a search).

 

Any idea how long it is there till?

 

Only until tomorrow evening. Returns to Flour Mill once the abnormal load time restrictions end.

 

Definitely a contrast to it's surroundings this evening!

 

First passenger trains at Beamish ,Good Friday to Easter Monday then next weekend .

 

Looking good !! It's first public passenger trains today, including the Duke of Sutherland's private coach

 

229 broken gauge glass and not running today .Should be tomorrow per crew .

Couldn’t they change it in steam? With Sir Berkeley out of action, as well with a couple of blown tubes,they are not having a good weekend.

 

According to Beamish's Facebook page, this weekend is the last weekend of 229's current visit. It will be back in July for the 50th anniversary of Rowley Station at Beamish.

 

According to the Beamish blog https://beamishtransportonline.co.uk/2026/05/transport-engineering-diary-april-2026/ it will appear at another railway locally before going to GWSR.

Could it be Tanfield as they have a gala next weekend?

It would suit Tanfield.

 

Offered to Tanfield weeks ago.
Is it going ,we may find out this week if they manage to update their website ,announce their guest loco and issue the soon to be released ( for last month ) timetables .

 

Nope. Tanfield have just posted on their Facebook page that it will be 9 home fleet locos (6 steam, 3 diesel).
