    Regards the claim it's the oldest working loco, Terrier Poplar/Bodiam/32670 on the Kent & East Sussex dates from 1872. Hoped to be back at work in the foreseeable future after bent rods are dealt with.

    And Fenchurch, of course! In any case Dolgoch and Furness No 20 would beat both.

    The claim in the article is qualified:

    Twizell is thought to be the oldest working locomotive in Great Britain to be built by railway engineer Robert Stephenson's Newcastle firm.

    (My emphasis).
    So they are not claiming the oldest, but the oldest Robert Stephenson loco.

    Resurrecting an old thread, to ask if, given enough cash, could Tanfield link to the Bowes Railway? I was looking at some photos of Bowes back in the day, but it’s clear trains won’t return while under council auspices. Could it link up with Tanfield or is that physically impossible?

    I suspect the ECML, A167 and the A1 are small stumbling blocks....
