To be fair, a normal size one will do, it just needs a large number written on it ...

Were they originally cast in one piece?

They were, but supposedly the only facility that’s left that could cast one piece frames is in Kansas City, MO.

The T1 Trust has been busy recently, machining all cylinder components, 50 pieces in total. The most recent pieces being machined are the exhaust chest sections.

A Worsdell 3 cylinder 4-8-0T would certainly be a thing to behold. What a pity this is an American T1 and not a British one! ;-)

Can't help thinking that looks like more work than casting...

There was talk on this thread earlier this year of the Crampton new build and a perception from some it was going nowhere without more publicity and finance.

Anyway, photos on Facebook of the firebox construction now complete ... https://www.facebook.com/northernhe...tcpkurCPqSTitmqYZsgcLnXLEoqdDyuTGyDin3ensm7Nl

(And decidedly odd it is too! I can't say I have got my head around its shape yet. But it exists.)

What a peculiar design. Everything about those things seemed odd

My god, what a beast! Every US new-build is probably x2-3 times the scale of a UK new-build. Even something like Prince of Wales.

So was it just me or did a proposal to build a new Dean Goods pop up in Steam Railway Magazine?
