    It was an eye opener to watch the report on Tornado doing the ton.

    A new loco built with modern materials/equipment/lubrication etc

    OK closely watched so its not a Sunday night when nobody is around to notice but it only got to 100 at the second opportunity.

    Oh and why does the UK hold the world records for steam and diesel traction?

    Agree about the 'flogged well to death point' but revisiting does debunk some very early claims such as with City of Truro. However, on Mallard let's wait till the PhD thesis can be read and we can then draw our own conclusions.
