I'd be surprised if they run any trains through Grosmont before May.

Obviously, hoping they'll manage by Easter.

Confirmed on the NYMR web site: "UPDATE 02/01 - The Autocar has now been repaired and will be running services as planned this weekend. After that, we’ll be closed until March. Don’t forget to join our mailing list for the latest NYMR news and service announcements. Happy New Year, and thank you for travelling with us."

Some fantastic photos and videos of stock moves along the railway this week.

257 Squadron is heading home, and 92134 is going to the GCR on holiday.

People might be interested in some pictures of Mondays stock moves in "interesting " conditions. First off New Bridge was 44806 leading 37688, 47077 (dead) and No.29, followed later by 37264 with two tenders (Q6 and S160) and a brakevan. We travelled through Newtondale to Goathland in a heavy snowstorm. At Goathland the FPL (point lock) would not budge so we had to shunt back to use the up loop. Fortunately the trap point was moveing freely so it was clipped and scotched (oh, what fun S&T had doing that in deep snow:(). From here we were in an engineers possession and were authorised to proceed at 5 mph to the possession limit just beyond the outer home signal. The reason for the caution was that nothing had been down the hill for at least three weeks so the railhead was expected to be greasy and at the bottom of the incline there was a missing rail. Not a move to take any chances. 37264 followed us through the possession also at 5 mph and when it eventually arrived behind us P.Way set to reinstating the short missing section of track - that is once all the chair keys had been located under the cover of snow. Eventually we proceeded onto the depot over the slewed section at 2 mph.

Here I swapped from the Black Five to the Bulleid Pacific for the run back to New Bridge. The return was made up of 31466 leading 92134, 34072 and a brakevan. When we eventually set off we could go at line speed uphill to exit the possession at Goathland. From there we travelled under normal token authotity to Levisham before the P.Way Manager who was travelling with us took a possession of the whole line from Goathland to New Bridge and we travelled forward under his authority. Despite a lot of hanging around and waiting for things to happen it was an interesting and unusual day

Those are the best days! Anything out of the ordinary is worth chasing, IMHO. You often get a good camaraderie, “all in it together” sort of vibe.

That's it in a nutshell, Tom. Great days.
You can tell how cold it was as unusually he wasn't wearing his customary all weather shorts:)
Thanks Alan, I glad you enjoyed it. Certainly plenty of time to take pictures.

The recent Great Central Railway YouTube update stated 9F 92134 will be with them for 'a few months'.

Presumably it will return when the Grosmont bridge work is completed.

Just reading the Bluebell Times. If only the NYMR had this level of openness and communication. Detailed figures for Xmas and New Year running published within a fortnight! Takings at the shop and tea hut all listed separately.
Does the NYMR make as much as the Bluebell's steam lights and Santa trains? I wonder.

I did wonder what was happening with the 9F as the mpd update has only suggested 926, 44806 and 29 to start the season. 5428 and Q6 on repairs to follow along with 2253 when conversion to oil completed.

That looks pretty thin for anything like a normal service but if no Grosmont/ Whitby it's probably not as bad.

Assuming the bridge repairs do take months of the season people will be able to draw a comparison on numbers without Whitby running.

I was thinking excatly the same thing. The NYMR is run on a need to know basis for facts backed up by a rumour mill. The recently introduced weekly newsletter is a slight step in the right direction but is restricted to volunteers and staff and the only statistic forthcoming in there relative to the Santa operations is the number of junior volunteers who helped with them. Even the update on Bridge 42 doesn't really provide any information.

34072 has actually gone to the GCR for their gala, alongside the 9F.

I think there is a plan, but not one most of us would want - I think there's a plan from the management to guide the railway into liquidation and receivership so that it can be reorganised along purely commercial principles. If that's the case, shame up the Trust and PLC Boards for not realising and exposing and resisting it.

I'm surprised that you credit management with such a high level of competence! In a choice between cock-up and conspiracy, I'd have said the evidence for cock-up is overwhelming
