I'll be coming from Carmarthen Bus Station and getting off the bus on Dolgwili Road.

As I've said, I think that there's a path running around the back of the hospital, but I don't know whether there's access from this to the station. I think that it's unlikely, but confirmation either way would be appreciated, please.

I know that access to the site off the aA485 is possible, but it's the getting there that I'm not sure about.

    Thanks.

You could walk it directly from the bus station if you wanted or just jump on the footpath either in the village of Abergwili or at Dolgwili end. If you put it In to Google maps it will show you the way.

Thanks, but I'm afraid that I walking that far won't be a reasonable request.

    That's excellent - thanks.

What do people think of coaches in five different liveries (counting the two shades of maroon as different)?

In this case, they all look to be in correct liveries for the coaches (the "two shades of maroon", look to be 1 later BR steam colouring of maroon for all coaches, and the other looks to be a non-corridor coach properly in "blood" of "blood and custard" for corridor stock).
Generally, I don't give a monkeys as long as they are cared for and running.

Well you could say the same about the locos. All part of a heritage railway. It's not BR it's the Gwili!

The things I would notice in that pic
    1) the fictional livery on the prarie[1]
    2) that generator van(?) has seen better days, and has a door open in motion, which is a bit iffy
    3) top and tailing, which I don't think tended to happen in service (excluding banking, but they don't look to be working hard enough for that)
    4) it's a nice pic

[1] obv no prarie ever carried it, I think the lining and details are different from the livery carried by LT steam stock as well. Interestingly, given LU's penchant for doing things differently to BR, if not quite out of bloody-mindedness then almost, had they still had the Amersham steam in their control, you could see them taking up some praries just because they weren't the expected GC/LNER locos

L150 you can argue is authentic, renumbered and painted by London Underground in 2013 for the Metropolitan 150 celebrations, plus a cut down cab.

Some catching up to do on this thread..

just to confirm, the door open is actually a roller shutter raised to allow ventilation to the area of the kitchen car where the generator is located. This part is normally closed off from the rest of the train when in transit.

    liveries…

perhaps L150 will return to a more traditional colour at some point but we quite like the red (with air pump and cut down cab) at present. It is a talking point among visitors and would say generally opinions expressed are 50:50 whether she should be more traditional or whether it’s good to have something different. Personally speaking I’m just glad we have our very own 55xx regardless of the colour, which as mentioned above thread has been a big news story for the railway this year.

    coaches….

the railway has always had two traditional liveries which are green for the dining train and maroon for the others. The two sets have morphed into one post Covid and we have also added a few carriages on hire in the different colours.

We are working through our carriages by sending them to Cranmore one at a time and they are now being painted in Craftmaster (as per the third coach from the left. Our TSO 4420 will also return in the same livery and will go into the train instead of the lighter red TSO. So we hope eventually to have a maroon set but it will take time!

    regards

    Matt

Any hey presto here is a photo of our TSO in gloss red!

Probably best to see the 7 coach top and tail picture above in terms of how far the railway has come but also having more to do!

happy Christmas to all NatPres readers,

    Matt

    1) Fictional to when?
    2) Departmental condition, looks good to me.
    3) As a lot of lines t &t with a diesel, seems a plus, and as a Christmas working I would think a big plus to those who are actually paying.
    4) Its an excellent image.

Out of curiosity, why did a railway in deepest darkest Wales choose green for a set of carriages? Rather, than, say chocolate & cream?

Not a criticism, just curious about the choice given the geography.

When first formed the dinning set was sponsored by Felinfoel Brewery whose corporate colours are British racing green. As well as that they were originally all adorned with dragon stickers to donate Felinfoel main brand double dragon. When this deal expired the stickers where removed but the set stayed in British racing green for simplicity.
