Flying Scotsman does it too, seems to only occur when the exhaust is soft, once the reg is opened more and the exhaust begins to bark it disappears. Some GWR locos have a similar whistle when the reg isn't open much.

A 3 day adventure for 60007 on back to back workings from Peterborough to York & return via a very general path on the ECML

The 2 days of the Saphos workings on Saturday and Tuesday certainly presented some challenges that ultimately paid off!

Coverage of Gresley's three tours on the ECML - Grantham after dark for the southbound trips - with outward journeys captured at Burton Coggles, Lolham and Peterborough.

Just seen 71000 looking excellent in the sunshine coming out of the loop at Hanwell and through Southall. Andy Taylor at the regulator, intercity Class 47 on the rear

Interesting. A WCR senior loco man on a Saphos charter. Nothing wrong with that at all and actually it's good to see it happening.

The Duke thunders through Midgham leaning into the curve, with a fantastic whistle as it scampers ahead of the late running Exeter service

I think 71000 has been booked in for all the Saphos Bath trips. It's also down for the Steam Dreams Bath trip next week (8th December) and another SD to Oxford/Bicester (December 17th)

I have next Tuesday off work and thinking about heading out and see 71000.

I do have one question about the Three Bridges-Bath trip next week. Will 71000 being hauling it throughout, I think 34046 did last year? Also the trip runs down the Brighton Line and along the West Coast Way line, but the tour description has the loco joining in West London for some reason? If 71000 does haul it, I may head out to Haywards Heath for the return and see it there to.

To the best of my knowledge it is steam hauled throughout, the description on the website is probably a typical copy and paste but it should follow the same itinary Braunton did last year

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for the timings for both next week's SD trip and the Three Bridges to Bath trip. Haven't seen the Duke since my run behind it over the S&C in 2006!

If those "estimated" timings have any credence then it will not be going to West London from Chichester.
The following days RTC tour takes basically 4 hours from Chichester to Bath via the coast & Salisbury. If they are planning West London to Bath and back with steam then I think those timings do not work at all. I know Saphos seem to like "rambles" before picking up the steam, but this would be excessive even for them
