You should have attended the last MIC! Have you been to one yet? You need to if you want to progress from the grade of Cleaner.
The only box that we can have closed is Alton but then there are conditions to that.

im sure that a way could be found to run a late train, howabout running the rat and the thumper or dmu to cover evening trains and first morning diagrams could be covered by the thumper ? to enable the steam crews time to get steam up
whilst i would welcome the chance of a stand at any station, i must say that for obvious reasons my prefered spot would be ropley picnic area where there would be the most amount of people that we could attract to our cause , after all who wouldnt relish the chance to see this icon of the south coast preserved steam up the 1in 30 anyone? \:D/ and we do have 2 merchant navies to restore 8-[

Just to let everyone know that the intention at Swanage is to run a late night Wessex Belle Bisto train, this is just a turn up ride and eat dining train. The train will probably run Until Midnight.
But there will be two trains out Sat night with the other train running all night long. More details as we confirm them but the all night train wont be any..ordinary train! :-k
Anyways will start a Swanage Gala topic in due course

What’s the point in running a Hampshire unit or a DMU on a steam gala? Most people want to ride be hind steam not diesel and which other Merchant Naive are you on about? I can only think of one MN that the MHR owns 35005.

Sounds like a great gala. So why not start a new thread about the next gala at Swanage? It will make it less confusing.

Your post wasn’t very clear about the two Merchant Naives? I don’t know where you work Martin. I think you need to be more clearer about what you are trying to say in your posts?

apperantly not , the experts seem to wish to jump down the throats of anyone who dont know what there on about ....Although like you , i cant see why a possession cant be impossed on the whole line. as all the tokens would be kept with the crew ( or PIC or who?)

Possesion of the line is not a safe method of operation for passenger trains. The railway's safety case sets out that only non-passenger moves are done under this method of operation. The main risks are around the fact that none of the points are "proved" under posession. The signals are passed at danger (which is not a practice that HMRI encourage under anything other than exceptional circumstances. Because the signals are not pulled "off" the points are not prooved to be in the correct position via the detection between signal and point.

The most practical way to run into the evening is to stagger the start times of the locomotives so no more crews are required, and find more signalmen.

At the moment, we always have to have Alresford, Ropley and Medstead 'boxes open when running passenger trains. The Medstead - Alton section can be run as a "long siding" with the train crew or platform staff operating the Alton station ground-frame for the run round. If we need to pass trains at Alton, then Alton 'box is opened as well. Things will change a bit in future when the Alton resignalling scheme is finally commissioned and then Medstead 'box is overhauled.

That's good, so does that mean that you will be able to switch your boxes out?

Just to update you all. Detailed planning for the event is well underway. We hope to have a Timetable available over the next couple of weeks. There are some exciting things lined up, more to follow - inc. our 5 Bulleid photo opportunity, which we understand is the first time so many loco's have been brought together since preservation (let me know if otherwise!).

    Kind regards

    SR reports line-up as 92212, 49395, 34046, 34007, 60019, 5224 & 850 for autumn gala.

34070 / '19 swap is now cancelled apparently.

To confirm. We will have 5 Bulleids:

    In Steam:
    Wadebridge
    Braunton

    Static:
    Can Pac
    Swanage
    Bodmin

    That makes 5.

    Others in Steam:
    Bittern
    Lord Nelson
    Super D
    9F
    5224 ex GWR Tank

    Static:

    Standard 4

Your source is incorrect and it doesn't relate to the release I provided SR.

Availability subject to the usual clause.

    Thanks

Er.... I can't see any difference! I think Lil' Bear was only listing engines that would be in steam most lines don't both listing the ones that aren't.
