Likewise in my time on the spanners, but as I found out working in Bridgnorth shed, there are many differences in accepted practice and terminology between the automotive and railway industries.

Indeed, but the interesting bit is that (AFAIK), they are all the same. That to me is the interesting bit, nobody's put pipes in a different order over/under each other etc.

T’other way round. A fitter would make things fit. He needed files, scrapers, measuring equipment, etc. A mechanic just bolted things together. He just needs spanner’s and a screwdriver. They both needed hammers, of course. :)

As I said, different terminology between the two disciplines. I was once asked - by a motor mechanic - what the torque settings were on a steam engine. I told him it was four pounds measured from the shaft of the hammer!

Until a few years ago, all the EMUs at work were exclusively ex-BR. All heavy maintenence work was done using hand ratchets and air-powered nut guns. A handful of jobs had torque settings listed for the bolts, but generally, it was doing everything up as tight as possible without shearing the bolts. Nowadays virtually everything has a torque setting, though how when you have tiny screws that are meant to be torqued to 1.5Nm, you have to wonder, what is the point?

Just a note following several enquiries about 82045 updates not appearing on the SVR unnoficial facebook site. For reasons best known to the mods, copy has been sent, but languishes in the 'waiting' page for weeks until it becomes dated and I simply remove it. A shame, but there is no good flogging a dead horse! Regular monthly updates always appear in Nat Pres.

Thank you for the update on progress. I cannot join the Members Special, nor attend the AGM. Hope it all goes well. Not seen the loco since it was the frames on 29 October 2011 (my last ever time on the line). I will look out for photos on your website.

Minty. IF you can get to Kidderminster for the AGM, I have a sponsor who will happily ensure you can join the 'Special' to see 82045 live!

I don't really know the answer to your questions, maybe someone better informed than I can come back with a definative answer.

I suspect that unless there are SVR organized 'shed' visits during the Branchline event, then the answer to the first part of your question is probably no. My understanding is that there will almost certainly be a 82045 sales stand at this event.

    Hope that helps.

I have no spare money. Have to come from Sutton Bridge to Kidderminster, using buses and trains. Cannot do it there and back in a day, and I would need prior permission from the Job Centre to go away for longer than a day. My first bus is at 0645, and last one home is at 1805. Sorry for letting you all down. :'(

Minty. You are not letting anybody down. IF you can get to Kidderminster Station by 12.00 hours then the offer is open and still stands.
