After a week on display the Inspiration Train has just shunted out of the NRM at dusk on Monday 1st September. The GBRf train crew discuss the next move out onto the mainline.

Its a bit cold!

 

Bliss was it in that afternoon to be alive but to be young and wearing a school raincoat at the north end of Crewe Station was very heaven. (1958 or 1959 I think)

 

Wonderful place Crewe but also frustrating as you couldn't see everything

 

I journeyed there towards the end of steam as a schoolboy and was amazed at the Locos I saw, but yes it was so big. Well worth 3 trains from Yorkshire.

Thought you might like this one from the archives - Easter Monday 1978 and the first southbound steam working over the S&C in preservation pauses at Garsdale for water. Passengers had an opertunity to get out, stretch their legs, take photographs and savour the moment. Posing proudly in front of "Green Arrow" is the Norfolkman himself, respected former Norwich shed master and mastermind of the V2's restoration, Bill Harvey.
