Thanks for the photo - I do hope there'll be a lot more showing the work as it continues to progress. And a BIG THANKS to all the gang who have PLANNED this and also to the gang who are doing all the hard graft - at least they can see their hard work.

When road 2 and 5 are laid It will be the first time a long time the railway has spare siding space. This is quite a big deal as shunting will no doubt be a lot easier!

Thanks for the photos - well done to all concerned for the hard work. Does this mean that road 2 is now connected to the 3 way turnout? Meant to ask - is it intended to stable the normal service train on road1 during just the winter or will it be stabled there overnight? If the latter how will the water tanks be filled without mucking up the shed floor - once a guard, always a guard!!!!

there is still a gap of about 4 panels which will likely be done in the new year. Next step for the shed is that the contractors move in to construct a central path down the middle for public access.

The road on the right of the photo (road one) will be used to store the service set while the road to the left (road 2) will form the basis of the public display. The plan is to stable the service set every night from about the middle of next year once up and running.

Was going to suggest that, from experience, you really need a concrete or other hard walkway down the length of the shed. Doing anythong on ballast is not the easiest. I'd also suggest that, if you are going to use it to store operational stock, you need adequate ventilation. Nothing worse than puttting wet coaches in a dry, insulated building. If you haven't done so, get some fans installed or the building heated. Speaking from experience where stock stored under cover in a cold building has deteriorated faster than stock stored outside.

Cheers for the info Matt, much appreciated. I'd guess the stabling ahs to wait until the shed is extended? And what about the water resupply for the coaches?

yes the shed does require a short extension to accommodate the set as it has now become a regular 5 car formation.

water supply- I believe this will be done in the shed with appropriate drainage arrangements.

    Restoration update

the 03 D2090 is coming on apace with the loco being painted up into undercoat and mechanical faults being attended to. The loco is shown here on a test run last week.

At Cranmore our TSO 4420 nears the end of a very comprehensive rebuild. Due back in the new year.

meanwhile the job of fitting the waistline. beading and door locks to GWR 216 continues and Barry 163 also advances at Llwyfan shed.

    regards

    Matt

Is there pedestrian access from Dolgwili Road to Abergwili Station, please?

    I know that I can get a bus from Carmarthen Bus Station to Dolgwili Road, but I'm not sure how to get from there to the station. I have seen two routes;
    a. Walk along a path near the First Bus depot on the outskirts of (but not through) Glangwili Hospital. The entrance to the station may be on the left, although it’s not certain whether there is an entrance here.
    b. Continue along Dolgwili Road to the roundabout and take the last exit onto the A485. Continue along the road and the entrance to the station is on the right.
I think that they'd both be about 10 to 15 minutes, which should be okay.
"Plan B" is to take a taxi both ways, which I'm happy to do so if I have to.

    Thanks!
