We are pleased to confirm an extra two visiting locomotives will be joining the exciting line-up for our Annual Steam Gala from 25th to 28th September 2025.

Ivatt 2MT No. 41313, courtesy of Isle of Wight Steam Railway and BR Standard 4MT No. 80078, courtesy of S Robinson, will also be part of the extensive timetable of locomotives.

The website also mentions 80078 & 80136 are both going to be renumbered to former Whitby based 4MTs 80116 (80136) and 80119 (80078).

41313 and 78019 paired up on a full-length train would be good!

Why stop at those two......why not renumber 41313 while you're at it?:(

    Meanwhile an old statement from the bad old days of Covid restrictions has appeared on the steam gala page;

Please book online in advance for all Annual Steam Gala tickets as walk-ups during the event will be limited.

Covid hangover, or somewhat desperate-sounding marketing ploy?

I won't feel as guilty saving over £300 on rover tickets and linesiding instead if the tickets are all sold out :D LOL!

..... And it may free you up to go somewhere else next year when the NYMR has gone bust due to falling revenue...... but I think that might be hollow consolation.

If the NYMR decided to limit ticket numbers (big "if") and sold out, why would it matter whether the n+1th customer at the ticket office window would have been Britfoamer or somebody else?

The same statement went out on at least last year's gala too (if not the previous few as well), I certainly bought tickets on the day still

I think we are all aware this is marketing ploy to get you to buy, and buy early, to get revenue in even before the event. Last day of sale suddenly gets extended the following day for another week, don't miss this fantastic opportunity! Next month the sale is still on.
If I have to buy now incase fomo boots in, then I won't buy, I can't miss anything I never had.
As for 60044's sentiment, there are a lot of other railways looking for my support, the main one for me is a couple of miles way if I get the need (which I do regularly).
Fear not, the Missus and me will be there as usual.

A Bulleid Pacific, 41313 and 80078... or in other words, the same as the Mid-Norfolk [edit - not North Norfolk!) and Spa Valley! Admittedly a Spam Can not a rebuilt.

Looks like no late train from Grosmont to transport those who want an evening at the Goathland Station Beer festival back to Pickering this year. :( Oh well, the pubs in Pickering will benefit from my cash instead.

Yes, seems odd, I am trying to think back when we had the option of a DMU!?

Perhaps memory fades, but I could see a early evening Pickering-Grosmont, then a couple of Grosmont-Goathland shuttles, before a late night Grosmont-Pickering?

    Others can perhaps help.

Although looking back 2022/23/24, late evening trains did run Fri/Sat
