For some reason i thought 73129's tender is a new Tank on a black5 underframe ... maybe i dreamt it...

73096 is paired with the tender frames from 45593's 3500 gallon tender and a hybrid tank. 45593 is paired with the 4000 gallon tender from 45562.

I've a vague recollection that 75078 may be going to receive a tender built up on Black 5 tender frames too?

75078 has its own tender and has been running since the late 1970's, apart from overhauls.

75078 runs with the same 4725gal BR1B tender that it arrived at to Woodhams following withdrawal.

M mistake, wrong number - I'm thinking of 75079, assuming that's the one at the Mid Hants.

Ah, ok, yes 75079 is indeed at the Mid Hants and has yet to steam in preservation. A new BR1B tender has been built to replace the one paired at withdrawal from Woodhams that was sold with 73129

And isn't 45593's original tender tank the one now running on much older (Fowler?) frames behind 48305? Or did I mis-remember that?

And here it is. Not great positioning from a phot point of view, I'm afraid.

Not sure without checking further but the tender currently paired with 8F 48305 indeed does have frames from a Fowler tender recovered from departmental use as a sludge carrier, but with a new welded Stanier tank fitted at last overhaul.

You may be right about the new tank... in which case presumably the ex-Kolhapur one (if indeed it was) which was fitted in the 1990s may well be no more, I suppose.

Midland Railway - Butterley are very pleased to launch the 'Standard Five Fund', help us restore the only Caprotti fitted BR Standard Five back to steam!

"Roofing our Future" helps secure the vehicles in our collection, now we want to bring some of those vehicles back to life!

BR Standard 5 No. 73129 isn’t just another steam engine — it’s the only surviving Standard 5 fitted with Caprotti valve gear. A truly unique piece of British engineering history, and right now, it needs your help to steam again.

We’re inviting railway enthusiasts and heritage supporters to join the mission by pledging just £5 a month to help bring this irreplaceable locomotive back to working order. Don’t worry, larger amounts can also be made!

We estimate the restoration will be in the region of £400k.
If we can get 5000 people to donate £5 per month, it would give the project £25k of available funds to allow contractors to start work on the restoration!

Find out all about the Standard Five Fund and how to donate below:
