Read elsewhere that the NVR are potentially looking at the B for overhaul once 73050 is complete.

Having a pair doesn't seem like such a daft idea to keep one in traffic.

Even with a grant from Peterborough Council a number of years ago, there is a significant sum likely to be needed to finish City of Peterborough. The B class to fundraise for and overhaul, so would be best described as intended, rather than planned at this stage. By the 656 will need to be overhauled.

1178 (the Swedish 2-6-2 tank) is patiently in store following an assessment around 20 years ago. There's also an austerity stored in the sheds.

The German 64 tank was NVR owned and went back to Germany as there was no chance of an overhaul.

If someone bought the LWR B class, and overhauled her, I'm sure the NVR would welcome her with open arms... But the idea of her moving to the NVR for overhaul is about as likely as a Flying Scotsman and Tornado double heading from the Greatest Gathering on a WCRC special of slam door stock.

Obviously the above is a personal view, rather than any official position.

The KESR Norwegian Mogul is a small loco by continental standards and I think it could run on most UK lines fairly easily whereas the Swedish B class is full Berne/continental and could only ever do the NVR or HS1.
As an aside I was always surprised when the DB 64 2-6-2 was bought for the Severn Valley. Anyone with a tape measure could have worked out it was too big before it came over, rather than after it arrived.

It may be a small loco, but it is surprisingly wide over the cylinders, and has caused issues more than once as a result. I would love to know what the width comparison is.

Not anyone with a tape measure as that was actually the issue - the Germans measured it prior to the agreement to purchase but it was discovered after it was bought and delivered they had sent incorrect measurements.

    D'oh!

I had that once when ordering glass for a phone box.
I gave the measurements ( in centimetres), and the panes came back much too large - in inches....

It’s quite possible that I was the fireman on it, we could never get the water pump and the injector to work at the same time.

I ordered three lengths of timber (specially planed to an obsolete t&g section), to be 3.1m long. When they came, they were each 1.3m long.

Bit cheaper than a steam loco though.

    Are they supposed to then?
    Surely they are alteratives?
Was there a feed water heater ( I think so) so the pump would be for the time you were injecting hot water.

I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t, one of the common questions when training for footplate duties is why do you have two injectors? The answer is to maintain the water level, by the same premise the water pump and injector should both be available to maintain the water level. Yes it was fitted with a feed water heater. It’s possible that our lack of experience with a loco of that type contributed to our difficulties

The only over line structure was St Michaels tunnel on the Headcorn extension. Platform clearances are about the only constraints, especially at Wittersham Road.

Northiam is just as big a problem, because it's on a curve...

When the Norwegian was first run after it's last overhaul, the outward cap on the cylinder "kissed" the platform face at Tenterden. We later found that the track had moved towards the platform JUST enough to cause the meeting. Since then, P Way have been in there, ripped it out, and sorted the drainage. Now it's a lot better.

GCR had similar issues with 377 'King Haakon 7'. The southbound platform at Quorn still has an annoyingly narrow bit on the platform ramp at the bridge end, from where the edge slabs were moved away from the track in the 1970s.
