Sorry, are you actually saying you think that it will only cos 1.5m more to complete Hengist? When the official website says 4 million more to complete the loco?

Or are you saying 1.5 million needed to complete the chassis to the point where you start to build the boiler?

Nice idea, is it possible in this current climate?

Talking of which, glad to see the work is being carried out in a good working environment, see latest https://www.theclanproject.org/Clan_News.php
Makes a change from seeing the lads with thick winter coats on under their overalls, it is a cold shed!!

Great to see progress as always lads, thank you.

Someone has posted a video of the Open Day on Saturday (which, due to family circumstances I couldn't attend) and it was interesting to see what else is going on at CTL Seal:

Big day yesterday as we wanted to get the bogie assembled for the royal visit of HRH The Duke of Gloucester on Thursday. We had assembled it for last April's Open Day but this was the first time with the correct sized cotters. In the spring, a profiling company manufactured some cotters that are the correct size and Mike H finished them off with the correct radii. These are only temporary as the proper cotters need hardening and tempering; they will get a hard life. Our concern was that this time, we would need to compress the main spring in order to get the cotters in. With a lot of planning, the job went smoothly. For the last cotter we had to use 13 tonnes of CTL Seal concrete test blocks resting lightly on the frames so that the jack had something to push against. You can see the pictures on the news page

The words "lightly" and "13 tonne block" are not words I expected to see in the same sentence...

More good work from the clan peeps.

Verging into WIBN, but with all the talk of fire risk, has any thought been given to an oil-firing option?

    Good to hear.
Are you getting any updates from Tornado about ECTS etc (as I've said, I have zero confidence in their public pronouncements, but hopefully they can give you heads up on things that you might want to design in)
You know you've arrived when Royals ask you for a visit...

Unfortunately no. We've tried to contact the P2 project (twice) to tell them that we've found a supplier of rectangular section springs but no response.
