I thought 48151 ran the SSE in 2008, or did I imagine seeing an 8F :-k

    Looking at the times:
    http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t09/tscspa.htm
there is supposed to be a water stop at "Bootham" just outside York, on both the outward and return trip.

But I can't think of anywhere where they could loop the train while this is going on. Maybe they are going to recreate the "Thomas" story - stop the train on the river bridge and drop a hose into the Ouse.

I think I know the location for that waterstop, it's very easy to get to and not in too bad a spot for photography.

It's not far from Scarborough Bridge, I'll see if I can get a pic in a while.

You are right that there is no loop there. In previous years they have just stopped in section for 10 minutes or so. I suppose it is better than occupying a platform in York station.

Lovely as the 8F is my understanding is that loadings on it were lighter than for Leander and Cromwell . I could be horribly wrong and will duck any resulting Eggs coming my way !!!!

Do we know how final these times are then? Are the earlier suggestions of and earlier return time now finished with? Any more updates on motive power, did hear roumours of a return for Cromwell recently but no hard facts?

RTC are now advertising a trip on Saturday 22nd August which takes 70013 from Kings Cross to Doncaster (via Cleethorpes) - this fits in nicely with the above, although Steam Dreams are advertising 70013 for their trip to Norwich on Sunday 23rd!

Latest post on UK Steam has Leander and Scots Guardsman listed for the first week of SSE. Implies both locos will be locating to York for a while. Looks like The Fellsman will have the wooden spoon of the 8F if these locos are taking residence in York for the season. Thought The Fellsman deserved better...

Latest report is 46115 will do the first week leaving 5690 to do the following week but then free-ing 46115 to do the first ( fully-booked ) Fellsman; does that help your holiday arrangements ?

I would guess that, like last year, the week's loco and stock will return to Carnforth for the weekend. WCRC may well need the stock for other trains over the weekend and it's probably cheaper to have the loco back at Carnforth rather than paying for stabling at York.
The only loco that may stay at York could well be the standby diesel!

If the last two posts are right, then it seems a fair outcome. Both quality routes will have a quality loco...

In the past, the stand by diesel has dragged the whole lot back to Carnforth after the thursday trip to save water stops etc

Sounds good, me and the missus are booked on a trip on Sept. 2nd and would be great if we got Cromwell, must admit wouldn't be overly excited if we got the 8F.

Don't worry - I am sure some undiscriminating member of the public will be happy with a mere steam loco up front

And as, after all, they make up the majority of passengers, that's fine!
