Good to see D2051 being restored - she hauled both the last scheduled pickup goods on the Scarborough & Whitby line, and also the notorious "Scrappie special" - the very last train to run over the whole line before lifting commenced. It would be nice to see her return to the area for a visit once repairs are completed.

Thanks for your comment and information @MarkinDurham. She is a very special loco, and there is a lot of interest in her restoration from enthusiasts, which is great. Hopefully Andrew and his team will get her engine running this year.

Telford Steam Railway will be appearing on Great British Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo on Easter Monday 21 April on BBC2 at 18:30.

It was great to welcome Michael and the TV crew to our railway last year, and I hope you will be able to find time to watch it.

We have a new arrival! Ruston & Hornsby DM Class 88DS No. 421418 Tioxide No. 7 was unloaded at Telford Steam Railway on 20 May 2025. It has been purchased privately by a volunteer, and came from Lincolnshire Wolds Railway .

Is Telford Steam Railway becoming a misnomer?

 

Possibly! However we still run 5619 regularly, and have the steam tram coming back into operation this year after a 6-year restoration, so there is plenty of steam around. Personally I would love more steam engines at the railway, but I can’t afford one!

 

Would it be possinle to give the poor old Ironbrdige Paeckeet some love, local engine and all that and poor old girl was looking tired last year. I reemmber it in steam 30 years ago...

 

Hi William, the current plan is to get both 5619 and Rocket through their 10 yearly overhauls, then look to restore Ironbridge No.3.

Apologies for the lack of updates recently

Some dates for you diaries - Special events to celebrate 5619's 100th Birthday - more information to follow

Sunday 21st September - If you are visiting Shropshire and need to complete your steam fix, 5619 replaces diesel on our trains.

Sunday 5th October - 5619 will be hauling a GOODS train at Telford for the first time in many years!! Photo opportunities and brake van rides

Sunday 28th December - Between Christmas and New Year, your FINAL chance to ride behind 5619 before she is withdrawn for overhaul. Trains topped and tailed with 5619 and a diesel.

Peckett & Sons W6 No.1722 “Rocket” is due to return to steam in 2026, exactly 100 years after she was built. As part of her birthday celebrations, we are planning a repaint her into the livery she wore during her working life at Coultards, Coventry.

Does anyone have any details about the livery she had or, even better, colour photographs of Rocket whilst working at Coultards that you could share with us.
