I know that (I think) eight locos were preserved at Butlins Holiday Camps, although none of them are there now.

Is there a list of these locos and their current homes, please?

    Thanks.

Thank you Sir Billy. It would have been a lot duller without these.

46100 is ex-Skegness. It is actually No. 6152 The King's Dragoon Guardsman with which it swapped identity in 1933 because of an upcoming visit to Canada and the USA.
    Granville is ex-Ayr.

I'm not sure when it left the holiday camp but I found it nearby in the goods shed at Williton in July 1977. I sneaked a picture - which I may have posted once before - through a crack in the wooden door. 77-7-14 18a 32678 copy.jpg

    It left Butlins in 1975.

Interestingly the Terrier Trust omits this in its history instead stating that it went to
RESCO in 1975 but this isn’t correct as your photo shows, and it was in fact 1983 it moved there from WSR.

So Butlins saved the Princess Royal class from extinction?

Also worth noting both 46100 and 46233 spent about 2o years at Bressingham after leaving the Butlins sites.

No 6201 was bought directly from BR by the 6210 Princess Elizabeth Society.

I didn't think that Butlins had more than 2 locos at any site. Wasn't Granville at Skegness with 6100? FWIW here's an indifferent slide scan of 6203 and 32640 at Pwhelli camp in Oct 1969. At least someone cared and has wrapped the motion and covered the chimneys for the winter.

What was the last loco owned by Butlins? I believe a lot of them transferred to preservation sites on loan, and remained in Butlins ownership for some years afterwards.

Had a quick look online and apparently Martello, Granville, 6100 and 6233 were still owned by Butlins until 1989 - by then they wished to dispose of them and they sold all 4 locos to Bressingham (at the time, all of them were based there).

Granville and Martello are still owned by Bressingham I take it?

While in many ways it's good that 6100 got bought by RS&GT from Bressingham, because it meant it got finished and ran on the mainline, I also find it a bit sad.
It was the pride and joy at Bressingham, and as their flagship on the mainline it would have been glorious.
It seems to be not particularly special as one amongst many in the current ownership.
Plus I must say I personally much preferred it in red - regardless of historical quibbles - than in sludge green.

It is a real shame considering how much time, effort and money Bressingham must have spent on it.

Would it have even gone mainline under Bressingham's ownership? It barely ran on preserved lines! Only about a dozen or so steamings wasn't it, at WSR and Llangollen. Over a million quid spent on it to end up a giant pink paperweight at Crewe for several years because the overhaul was done so badly. If they hadn't sold it, would Bressingham still be around how? The lottery grant was for just over half a million and that included overhauling Martello. The actual figure spent was a lot higher.

Was there any reasons why Butlins chose specific locomotives for the camps, was it just a case of what was available at the time?
