Thanks Harry, I was thinking of going out to the fens tomorrow so it should be OK with diesel at the back

The only spot I can think of that will be reasonably OK for the forecast northerly wind is Silt Drove level crossing near March. It'll hide most of the Mk2s as well. There's a chance the loco will be working away from March as it's right behind a stopper, but there's a good chance of getting stuffed by the freight that's booked to go the other way at the same time!

Back home now after a three day rail marathon, yes I know some will have done more, but 1120 in 3 days is a pretty fair total just to travel behind steam from Wick to Inverness, but not in my original plan, I was able to include 118 Tornado miles from Inverness to Perth this morning. even though it meant an iffy 5 minute connection at Haymarket.
Good to talk to the NP contingent and also have a chat to Kelly. The whole team involved must be praised for their efforts,
So was it worth it, most certainly yes...

Thanks Nigel, Just the place I was thinking of or crossing the drain at Stonea. Most of my mother’s side of the family live in the area so I know it well.

Can I echo that? It's fair comment for people to question the sanity of someone who embarks on a three day rail marathon that, in my case, involved a 10+ hour journey each way, to and from Scotland. Then to follow it with a really silly o'clock start to get to Wick for the return steam leg just adds to the narrative. But it was the only way to do it and your reward was to pass through some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK. Gorse galore!

Also, spare a thought for the onboard team who had to get up early to look after us, not to mention the West Coast folk who actually had to work to these time frames. So many familiar faces. It makes you remember that few other TOCs, if any, could marshall this kind of workforce.

I don't often interact on here but have to say that it's nice to see people who enjoy these tours paying homage to the countless people who work behind the scenes to make these things happen, both those who are paid and those who volunteer. It often involves long hours, lots of conversations, frustration, dedication, determination, and faith. From support, footplate and train crews and fitters, onboard stewards, catering people, planners & control, tours operators, and everyone else between, it's always a mammoth task that everyone takes pride in and we get to enjoy the show

It was very moving today when the train made a special stop at Northallerton in order for Kelly to speak to Mike Dunn, a volunteer steward since the original GB. Mike unfortunately is very unwell and was allowed out of hospital specially for the occasion. I and all who know Mike wish him well .

A couple of photos from today. A lot of caution being exercised on the run to Norwich, from the photo you would think it was a warm day when it was actually a little chilly. But given the lack of rain you can't fault it.

Thanks Harry, a little saunter down to the shack is in order today, taking it steady because of a tender, dodgy knee :(.

Train has gone straight to Stowmarket loop and is sat there at the moment. Apparently will not be visiting Ipswich today.
