Just watched the latest episode of Countrifile and see that next week they are visiting the Watercress Line. Should generate some good publicity.

Thanks Nick, great shots indeed. So nice to see that piece of SR railway history again, performing what I imagine was the last few days of the reason for its continued existence after Eastleigh power box came into service a few years earlier?

I went past that signal box rather fast on the 15 May 1965. Under brakes but still over 100 mph. Hauled by a rebuilt pacifc that has been getting rather a lot of very much deserved attention here recently!

Passed two slow moving low loaders on the M3 this morning. 34072 and tender heading for the Purbeck hills. A great loco much appreciated by all on the Watercress line. Thank you SLL

It's a shame that she couldn't have stayed a bit longer, as that still leaves the Mid Hants with only just enough engines, unless the early, and late season becomes One steam, one deisel to reduce the milage on the steam fleet, 4 steam engines, of which only 3 are really capable of running 5 car sets, dave, as a shunting engine, really whilst it can manage 5,isnt really suitable. for day to tay operation, plus its better out on hire, earning the railway money, So, whats likily to be next out, how far advanced is 92212, I understand its re assembly, rather than overhaul, 53808, has money in the pot, Does the Heritage trust have money from the sale of 73096, to crack on with the boiler work now for the standard 4?

2 capable of regular all weather 5 coach trains. 41312 is really 4 coaches all the time, 5 on a reasonable day, but not all the time.

Not certain what Ms Dalley had to do with it all but the whole event was definitely well staged judging by what has been seen on here.

I'm not sure why you had to make that comment regarding Rebecca. Perhaps you could explain what prompted it? As CEO/GM she is the head of the team that delivered it all.

Fair comment and of course what you say is true. I was thinking more of those who did all the work to make it the event it was. I do agree though that when good things like this happen it does have a lot to do with leaders creating the right circumstances. So yes, rather disingenuous of me. I apologise.

In your apology, you appear to have repeated the sentiment that she played little to no part in delivering the event, merely ‘creating the right circumstances’… what is it that makes you think she wasn’t also playing her part in doing ‘all the work to make it the event it was’?

I’m not sure ‘disingenous’ is the right word here.

Sorry Simon, I had forgotten about the pinhead you often seem to dance on.

Correct - 'disingenous (sic)' is not the right word ;). I was thinking of engineers, volunteers and the like in my original comment. And to be clear about my sentiments over 35005, when on the main line it produced one of the best runs with a Merchant Navy I have had when it once took a trip from Bristol to Plymouth and back.

‘Demeaning’ was the word you were looking for, behaviour you’ve now exhibited three times, irrespective of spelling.

No pin dancing required – you’ve dismissed one person’s efforts as less valuable than others, with no apparent justification.

I would expect 506 and 41312 as I believe CanPac isn't due out again until the gala.

An interesting ppst to Facebook appeared earlier today from the Watercress Line account which says that 35005 is only going to be used for selected events and services this year.

Thanks for posting that, I've just read it too. A shame, but it is a large and I guess expensive loco to operate, and maybe the feeling is to run it when it can certainly generate very good revenue.

That will limit my visits to the Mid-Hants as 30506 and 41312 are great SR locos, but any Bulleid pacific will always be a key draw to me. I was hoping that 35005, which as many here will perhaps realise is rather special to me, would help me cope with the nearest unrebuilt Bulleid now being at Swanage!

I wonder if 15 May 2025, the 60th anniversary of the 105 mph run will see in it action as a special day/weekend?

I believe 35005 is due to be operating for the VE Day event on 8th May as she is shown on the event website page. We have booked the afternoon dining service at 15.00. So 35005 could well be in use for 15th May.
