To me its sounds like the excuse is going to be , " it's because of the S&D celebrations, " that no work is being done on the P2, that in turn will lead to the questions of where is the money for the S&D work coming from, and what is the army input, and again who is paying? I can guess the answer in time coming out in 2025-6
I am far from convinced that 60163 will be trouble free, on its next mainline career and at some stage might have to have further remedial work on it, and the trust will instead be pursuing military facing adventures because they enable the chairman to play importance,

I fear that in 2026, the trust will have 60163 sidelined, needing additional work, with little, or no funding, and the incomplete P2 still waiting for its boiler, and still needing to be finished, again with not enough funding to do anything and all the while, the board are focused on some far-flung military connection that has nothing to do with what it was set up to do.

In all fairness, I do admire their patience with people asking why they are still doing the other P2...

Or perhaps being the realist, 60163 has an one off prototypical new electrical installation, and it's had to be interfaced with existing systems, there are issues with the repair work on the boiler, and if that's created any stress problems within the rest of the boiler, these will become clear if there are issues only once the engine has had extended running at mainline speeds, hauling a heavy load, there is a lot of uncertainty about what the committees direction is, loco building and operation, seems to have fallen down the scale, in favour of what, looks to be at best a distraction into military charities and other areas that are not what the A1 trust was set up to be.

In any project like this things can go wrong but what is unforgivable is to then lie to the supporters and that’s happened on more than one occasion. The final straw for me was when they blamed the boiler inspector for the delay in steaming it after they had cancelled his visit when further issues had been identified. It’s just a personal opinion but I think they are I desperate need of another David Elliot to sort out the engineering side and another Mark Allatt to get the funding back on track.

I think there has been so much disappointment, lack of clarity, obfuscation, bluster, etc. surrounding both of the Trust's locos that we need to reserve judgement and comment until/if we see clear evidence of progress. The loco will be ready for main line work when we see it happening, not when we are told it will. Similarly, only when we see photos of the P2 boiler being lifted onto the frames will we understand what "imminent" means.
