Yes. It's obvious that they're not full gala days because of the ticket prices. I'm not complaining about the price of my ticket. I'm complaining that it wasn't obvious that the Thursday wouldn't be a full gala day.

Apparently with gift aid, you can only have 5 none gift aid days per season, so the gala takes 4 out of the 5, no idea what happens with the other day.

It was argued (unsuccessfully) earlier in the year that the diesel gala should have gala fares for the Saturday and Sunday, leaving the steam gala with gala fares for the Friday, Saturday, Sunday as the Thursday of the steam gala is always just a basic bronze timetable with the freight added.

So the diesel gala was included in the annual pass whilst all days on the steam gala are excluded.

    Strange.

It might well be that the NYMR are busy repairing some of the damaged coaches but as it stands they only have 16 coaches (including the three from Bo'ness) for the gala.
Normally they would run with 7 coach sets and some 28 or more coaches would be in use.

Does that include the Pullman's? The previous gala after the class 20 incident saw the Pullman's on service trains with the dinning trains cancelled at short notice (I was booked on one). This year their are no diners over the gala.

No I am not including the Pullman set in the figures.

No, it isn't. Five coach trains behind the Hall and Eddystone is not what I envisaged for the gala.

Presumably the £50 rover and lack of a star guest will balance out the reduced capacity. Every cloud!

There are only 3 sets shown on the timetable. The lack of Whitbys on Friday to Sunday means that can run a full timetable with all trains crossing at Levisham and Goathland with only those 3 sets.

So, adding the Pullman set to the 16 coaches mentioned above, they may be able to run 7 coach trains.

"The Sunday locomotive roster has been updated today.
The Omaha will be on the rear of the 10.27 ex. Grosmont and lead the 12.08 ex Pickering with Eddystone on the rear.
The locomotive has restricted use and restricted mileage over the weekend as part of running agreement."

So Omaha is out for another day but not solo which is very, very disappointing.

What is the point of hiring Omaha if it's usage is restricted? It will only frustrate and annoy potential customers.

From what I hear it's less 'hiring for the gala' and more 'the gala's the first stage of an arrangement that will see the loco at the NYMR for a while'.

Limited mileage might have something to do with not having had much use in the past couple of years, and limited time available to tend to the loco at Grosmont before the gala, so my guess is that the agreement is there so as to not stress the loco too much before it has more significant effort given to it after the gala.

I am told by one of the drivers that the loco (Omaha) is excellent.
There will be two six coach sets and hopefully a four, obviously this could alter in the next two days.

'Omaha was excellent' (emphasis on the past tense) might be more accurate, given what I've heard about it's current condition...

Does anyone know if the beer festival at goathland caters to those of cider drinking persuasion? Just planning my day.

I seem to remember there is normally a small selection of boxed cider, though in the past it has been exhausted before the ale has been.

    Apparently the sets are going to be 2 x 6, 1 x 5.

I emailed asking the question about this.

    "Good Morning.

    Thank you for your email.

We will be running 3 sets of 5 carriages.

Hopefully, our visitors will hop on , hop off throughout the day to allow as many people as possible to have a seat as they travel.

    With regards,

    Yours Sincerely,

    Jo Marshall"
