Well it's good to know that the participants in this incident had second thoughts about it, which is presumably why a repeat didn't occur on Sunday as mentioned on previous posts. It is clear though that the management of the railway and Richard Salmon as web master don't have any such regrets. It has been long enough now for the story to get around amongst the inveterate gossipers of the Bluebell volunteer community and yet the website is still showing the shooting incident.

It is simply not believable that the chairman of the BRPS and the webmaster don't know about this matter. It's time for an apology.

    Regards

I too was not there so cannot comment on events, however , ( and without stirring it), perhaps yourself and others can now see and understand what I have been saying for a long time, and that the policy of the Bluebell management is only to publish good news and say nothing when things go tits up.

This is not unlike burying ones head in the sand, so New Labour this.

So do you actually think thats how a spy would have been dealt with in the UK during WW2?

I thought re-enactors strove for some semblance of historical accuracy.

yeah and all the old tosh on the 'locked' one too,

seems some people here wanna stir it up for the BB line [-X
not my idea of fun to trash a heritage line's reputation nor management...
i'm sure BB line did not think this was going to be offensive to some sensitive souls who never actually attneded the event and cause a pathetic rant which some of u are creating

That is your opinion my friend which of course you are entitled to.

However there is more to this than you proberbly know as you are not a Bluebell member so might I suggest that if you know any, ask some members what really goes on?.

This is in no way offensive to yourself of the Bluebell.

    Regards
    Chris

It seems it's more a case of who can be outraged the most. I have visions of these people turning even more vivid shades of purple as they try to outdo each other. Had to chuckle when the original thread was locked when someone just had to start another so they could be outraged all over again. Makes a change I suppose from slagging off loco owners for painting their engines in the "wrong" colour. :smt003

I think you'll find that summary execution by shooting was preferred by the SS. The British preferred hanging.

The scenario may have been influenced by the victim's Dutch ancestry and as the Dutch had first hand experience of this sort of thing, they are not so sensitive about it. As has already been said, it was realised that it was over the top and the scenario was changed on Sunday so that he was simply arrested by the MPs and led off.

I'm afraid that the Society Chairman had the temerity to take a holiday out of the UK and so it is quite likely that he hasn't seen the forum as he only returned a few days ago and is catching up with all the work he wasn't there to deflect!

As we have heard nothing from any officer of the BRPS and the picture gallery of the shooting of the spy is still on the Bluebell's website we can only draw the conclusion that the Bluebell's management are quite happy and comfortable with this cameo.

I wouldn't say that. It is not for Bluebell management to trawl the internet if they don't want to looking for complaints.
One of the posters on this thread did say that his e-mail had not been answered by the Customer Service Centre, that may be because not all e-mails have been delivered for the past week (as I send lots via a bluebell address). Try phoning up and asking for a comment.

It is also interesting to note that their is no communications society Trustee, just a chair of publications. Though external comms are mainly handled through the Company customer service centre and press officer.

Richard Salmon, the Bluebell's webmaster, is certainly a NP member, he has posted here before. It is simply unbelieveable that the BRPS is not aware of this controversy, partly because of that fact and the gossipy nature of the BRPS. I think the BRPS management has just decided to hunker down and let the controversy pass. These people are incapable of admitting a mistake was made, unlike, and to their credit, the volunteers who first committed the blunder. They just don't have the depth of character required to make such an admission. Salmon should remove the offending webpage but he won't; not the slightest chance.

the railway at war weekend ethics and that webpage maybe offensive to a tiny few here but the vast majority do not think so.
if you find it in bad taste dont go, nor look at the webpage !

i guess the BB can do whatever they wish. and respond how they wish.,

this is`all old news now and frankly not interesting.

if you wish to froth and fume over a triviality that consumes you then you so be it.
it your blood pressure not mine !

take the event for what it was (the second world war and all its amazing stories and shocking history) and do please leave it at that.
no one is losing sleep over this nor soooo offended surely as to drag this on and on....

    ta ever so...

As usual the "anything goes" contingent miss the point by a country mile.To find this staged execution shocking is not because we are hand wringing, politically correct, wets , but because we expect a certain standard from an organisation that is organising on the face of it a family day out. Playing cowboys and Indians is one thing, shooting an unarmed man in the back of the head is another.

Look at it this way, if you took your young kids ( and it is their sensibilities we are concerned about here not our own) , to a movie you would expect it to have a rating of some sort. If it was X rated you may well decide to avoid it. The point here is that the Bluebell's event, for reasons known only to themselves, contained X rated content but without warning, which is why people find it concerning.

Also concerning is the total lack of a response from the Bluebell. I did send an email eight days ago and got no reply, but at least they are aware.

However it is only right that they should have a chance to explain themselves , if only so that we may decide whether to attend their War events in future.

So I have today emailed Richard Salmon personally , and invited him to comment on this thread.

would you REALLY want to take VERY youngs kids to a second world war event ??? ](*,) it beggars belief to me, if you did your wasting your money lol so WHY do it???
thomas tank is much more up their street...

and if you did take em to WW2 events then the kids themselves would hardly be as concerned as this forum seems to be...i guarantee that!

let em watch the 'hills have eyes' LOL (i'm sure some parents let them do 8-[ ) then the kids wont sleep for 6 months 8-[ lol
