The PRCLT website does not set out any timescale for overhaul, although does say that air brakes would be fitted, which implies a return to the mainline. They also imply that 6233 is to be withdrawn "for heavy overhaul" so maybe with 6201 on the national network they feel that the Duchess has priority? They are also in the middle of an overhaul of one of their class 4 2-6-4 tanks.

Here is the link to their website:

I got the impression 6233 would be out for a second stint first as overall it's not in too bad nick ?.

No doubt PMR will be back at some point but not till at least the next decade IMO.

What a great engine would love to see PMR back in action sometime in the future, in BR Brunswick Green, of course...

I was chatting to a support crew member at the lineside and he suggested that it was the fitting of air brakes that was putting them off doing 46203. He said that it was a nightmare putting all the piping in on 6233 and they really didn't fancy doing it again. Let's hope they do at some point, as Maggie Rose was one of my favourite mainline performers. However, I'll be more than happy to see 6233 out for another stint, while Maggie waits her turn.

And let's not forget, most importantly, a suitable Steam beano headboard for that final touch of authenticity.

sure i have seen somewhere pmr will not be restored because the prclt do not have the money nor are they likely to have in the future plus the job they do with the duchess is more than enough dont you think.

I think it is fair to say that only one of the pair will ever be out on the mainline at the same time, one big pacific takes up more than enough time and money. With Lizzie back for a further 3 years then we do still have an example to see for the time being. I too have heard that 6233 is in very good nick so will be overhauled relatively quickly &personally I feel the mainline is a much poorer place without a duchess. I think the big & more important question is what will happen to 6201 in 3 years time-but there's another thread going on for that sort of speculation/discussion. At least 46203 is undercover, not deteriorating and can be seen whilst she waits her turn which will come eventually, probably when 6233 is not running having been replaced by a streamlined 6229..?!

Is PMR ever steamed at the Midland Railway Centre or purely shown as a static exhibit?

Just of interest, but not regarding 46203. When 6233 is withdrawn for overhaul, will PMR Tours still do railtours but hiring in other locos or sit back till 6233 in ready again?

    Thanks

interesting question, wouldn't of thought that hiring locomotives would of made much sense financially having said that the A1 trust hired locomotives until tornado had been completed so why not carry on running tours, guess it will come down to how many prclt members are available, although the trust website states their key aims as promoting intrest in pacific locomotives of the london midland & scottish railway , not promoting tours so who knows what'll happen.
