I wonder if Riley’s didn’t want to be involved in what they consider the retrograde step of fitting a single chimney which is, if reports are true a part of the new contract.

A number of NYMR volunteers also volunteer for Rileys and WCR as support crew.
A smaller number of NYMR volunteers are employed by WCR.
Some NESL employees and directors volunteer at NYMR.

    The links are clear.

My thoughts are that it can only be a good thing that another steam workshop is happy to get involved with mainline operations - who knows where it may lead. Well done all!
As for operator she was registered with DB as well due to Royal Train duties.

The tender included the provision for the locomotive to be converted to a single chimney locomotive and a livery change if requested. As it happens, upon announcing the new custodian the NRM says Scotsman will remain in its current condition for now.

Northern Steam are Custodians which means they'll have someone travelling along wherever it goes. Probably give guidance to best operational practice but they aren't physically driving and firing the locomotive. That's for the crews of WCRC, DBS and preserved railways.

It’s a fair point Re LSL. They have enough flagship express Pacifics either on, or coming onto, their books - 34046, 60532, 60007, 70000, 71000 - and that’s without considering that they have 46100 and 61306 available too

Not to mention 60019 and one day, hopefully, 35022 and 35027.

It's even slightly surprising that they were happy to take on locos that don't belong to their own associated Trust. What would they do with yet another one?

Following various conflicting posts on other threads here I am still very unclear "who calls the shots" on locos from those other trusts, one of which I believe no longer exists anyway.
One thing is clear others would have had a large input (veto?) on what this loco did or did not do.

This would be the concern, they have a massive stud of locomotives there with at least 2 (possibly 3 if one counts 6024) with a third party owning Trust who are going to be dependent on steaming fees to fund whatever is needed in 10 years time, there are only so many LSL affiliated trains being run so is there going to be enough for these independent Trusts to do another overhaul in the future or are they just going to end up subsumed into the wider LSL banner?

As for matters 60103, assuming that the agreement goes well, if nothing else Northern Steam will get a shed load of publicity/exposure off the back of it!

Has there been any more of how the winning organisation are going to maintain the locomotive on a day to day basis. Air brake valves, for example. Do they have a source for replacement/overhaul of those in case of failure?

That’s an odd question to ask. Have you asked it of all the others who operate air braked stock?

They will probably use the same firm that most other owners and maintainers use.

"We are working with Northern Steam Operations to facilitate Flying Scotsman’s operation for the full term of the contract. We are continuing to work with Northern Steam Operations Limited on the development of a calendar. This will be shared in due course.

    NRM Spokesperson"

So still no news over four months after the contract was announced.
