The driver to Doncaster is the one and only EWS steam man (Don Clark from Hither Green) who knows the road from Kings X to Doncaster, and has driven the A1 out of The Cross on its two previous trips. Of the three that there used to be, one retires tomorrow and one Saturday!

UKsteam has been updated this morning to show light engine moves for 60019 from MHR to Hornsey tomorrow and from York to MHR next week. Maybe GWR4090 hasn't fully caught up from his computer problems yet, or perhaps rumours of Bittern's withdrawal were exaggerated?

I dont think you can call them 'rumours', it says she's been failed on the MHR website. Anyway, i see in an article about Tornado's stay at the NYMR that Phil Bustard indicates she will indeed be leaving on thursday to fill in for Bittern.

Well I’m actually glad that 60163 is doing the first leg as having had a look at the times on the return journey not much opportunity to impress. A number of things suggest to me that the highlights of the weekend will be Saturday. At least 60163 will be given a chance to show what it can do Kings Cross to York. I guess the penalty of returning on a Monday is that there are more trains around and the paths just aren’t available that we enjoyed last year.

Obviously I feel sorry for the 60019 team. How about using ‘Nineteen’ on the 23rd May instead of 60163? It would be a fair swap.

I think Bittern is busy on the MHR that weekend, while 850 is at Eastleigh.

I wouldn't if I were you. I don't think you'll find that they are beside themselves with anguish. At least not the hierarchy.

60163 will be working under own power to Battersby - this move is by NYMR as TOC (as was move in from Battersby). Then due to be diesel - suspect DBS steam man not available at short notice.

Suspect time off Grosmont will have been a little before 14:40 as NYMR service train due off Whitby at 14:45 and really need to allow 10 minutes from Grosmont to Glasidale, replace token and then driver at Whitby gets a token, so probably about 14:30 off Grosmont and then pass incoming Northern at Glaisdale.

It is shame that Bittern wont make it onto the Coronation but Tornado is a worthy replacement.

Does any one know when the full timings for the additional trip on Sunday to Dundee and the ones for the return from Edinburgh on Monday will be made available.

Curious, not what I heard. A4s are mainline locos, they need to stretch their wheels now and again.

In very poor light, almost raining, Tornado passed effortlessly through Welham Green, south of Hatfield at 7.47, dead on time.

One day I might get another shot in sun, which did appear fleetingly an hour after the event.

Tornado passed Cawood about five minutes down, thought it would be a bit slow as a unit passed just before it, but needn't have worried as it came blasting past =D>

Watched the A1 accelerate for a mile or so from the water stop at Holme to Yaxley this morning. Spot on time leaving its waterstop and the exhaust on a chilly saturday morning was well suited to black and white. Look forward to the return working.
