The cancellation was nothing to do with the P&DSR.

Amazing how quickly lack of facts turns into complete nonsense. It had NOTHING to do with the P&DSR, it was WCRC who didn't send their crew down.

Just a quick question regarding this railtour specifically aimed at anyone involved with 5043/5029 really (or anyone with the answer). Can anyone explain why the two steamers are running light engine (at stupid o'clock) from Tyseley to Shrews, when the actual tour itself will follow them a couple of hours later using the same route? It seems very pointless to me, why not just run them on the train itself??? I thought about going on this tour and when I saw the original itinerary, I was definetly up for it. I think it would be the first passenger working by a Castle between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury since the sixties?!? (please correct if I am wrong). Unfortunately, this section has been 'pulled', and is being hauled by a diesel locomotive instead. I dont understand the problem, I cant see how 'gauging' at Bilbrook (or any other station) would be an issue, otherwise why send the loco's light engine up beforehand? Not having a go or anything, just seems a bit daft to me. Also, surely the crews would have to start earlier to prep the loco's for the early LE move. Or is there a definitive reason why this is being done???

I think the outward leg is via Birmingham New Street which doesn't allow steam,I think! Colin.

Nunney Castle was prevented from leaving the P&DR due to 'politics' ....a FACT. <BJ>

you have a strong assertion which conflicts with a clear statement made by the 5029 support group on here and on their own website

perhaps ou would like to furnish us with all the information you have or reconsider the above posting

Oops, sorry, I had not noticed the tour was routed thru New St. I presumed the tour would be from Tyseley, then follow the same route as the Steamers. I cant see reasoning behind routing the tour thru New St anyway as Tyseley is relatively close to New Street?!?

My guess is it was put up to cover their own back, in this day and age had 5029 not got back to Tyseley in time and the tour capped some would have been quick to blame the 5029 group. Now the situation has been resolved there is no need for the statement.

For steam to get to Shrewsbury , the route is round sutton park , walsall and round to wolverhampton . Both loco's would have require water at Shrewsbury , ideally on the loop line to then avoid the need for turning . Two engines is then a relatively long stop to water both and maybe logistically it's not possible

    Noted statement removed , interesting
