My other passion (hence my avatar):

From my home town (Bourne, Lincolnshire), Hall & Hall have built a completely new chassis and engine of the original 1950's BRM v16 (that's a supercharged 1.5 litre v16), to be launched at the Goodwood Revival, next weekend.

Way too complex a design, so massively unreliable at the time, but always regarded as one of the best sounding F1 engines ever. I always wondered if, with modern materials and engineering, it could be made more reliable without impacting the essence of the original.

This video features Dick Salmon, who happens to be my mother's next door neighbour (and mine, before I left home in 1993!).

At 2.16 you can see Raymond Mays' house, which still stands. That house backs onto the former BRM workshops, now the home of Golding, Young and Mawer, a Lincolnshire firm of auctioneers. It is also adjacent to the home of the Delaine Buses depot and heritage collection.

I was living in Liverpool in the early 50s and saw the original car racing there, and yes it was noisy and could be heard for many miles aound.
