Timings are now available for the first Royal Duchy of 2024 on 5th May.
Note that there are no timings this year for a light engine diesel to shadow the tour.

Indeed, the timings appear to confirm a diesel on the rear which is expected in present circumstances.

Here's my footage of Ian Riley's Black Five no. 44871 hauling the first Royal Duchy of 2024 on Whiteball Bank at Nynehead. The weather was not very good today with some drizzle and dark misty clouds meaning that the lighting was very poor. However, the Black Five sounded really good powering up Whiteball Bank. I hope you enjoy the video.

Here's my footage of LMS Black Five no. 44871 on the Royal Duchy today in beautiful summer weather. I filmed the engine at Brent Knoll, Whiteball Bank, and the Teign Estuary. I hope you enjoy the video.

Does anyone know why 44871 was delayed at Taunton?

Yes it was regulated for 1 GWR and 1 XC service to prevent further delay to both the GW and the XC.

Just seen it at Beambridge. 44871+POB+5 B&G+1 Kitchen+2 B&G+47. 47 pushing like a good un.

It had to follow the Padd - Penz service that departed 11 late at 10:10. It then followed the 10:19 Cross Country voyager.

Interesting stock behind the Black '5' today. [BJ]

Lovely shots. Good locations. Probably the best you could have got.

Sadly the weather didn’t play to the forecast for the return. And the signaller didn’t play to the working timetable for the outbound at Dawlish.

Today was a serious shove from the rear day.

It seems a safety issue with the track has closed the Taunton-Bristol line. 1Z34 stuck at Taunton. Possible diesel running round based on traksy moves.

I know its not as easy as it sounds but a little surprised its not been routed out via Westbury/Bradford Upon Avon and into Bristol that way. It wasn't that long ago that the Duchy's were routed that way and its a Black 5 so would likely have been gauged. Get the diesel on the front, save water and a conductor for the route might be the biggest sticking points. Hope something is worked out soon and its not too late for all those on-board getting back to Bristol and home.
