The Halesworth to Southwold Narrow Gauge Railway CIO plans to run on 11th May at Blythburgh Station - for the first time in public - a goods train which is effectively sun-powered. Solar panels charge the lead-acid batteries in a 1930s Greenbat loco. Question- is this a first? I am sure that forum readers will know.

I suggest you look up the Byron Bay Train in Australia. They have operated a converted ex NSWGR 600 class railcar plus trailer on a 2 mile standard gauge branch to the resort since 2017. This is claimed to be the first solar powered train in the world, but others may know different.

    I guess that's a light goods loco?
