No, the photo charters are with the one that begin with 6. xx07 isn't that hard to work out either - not many locos in traffic with those two numbers at the end.

Possibly not the engine with a number starting with 6 you were all expecting!

The WSR is pleased to reveal that GWR 66XX class 0-6-2 no.6695 will be visiting the WSR this Spring. This engine will run on many days between March and June this year on an extended loan, with thanks to locomotive owners 6695 Locomotive Ltd and the Swindon and Cricklade Railway.

We are delighted to also confirm that this locomotive will take part in the Spring Steam Spectacular event between Friday 3rd May and Monday 6th May, joining previously announced guest locomotives LNER B1 no.61306 and LNWR 'Coal Tank' no.1054 plus further guests to be announced.

No.6695 was built in October 1928 by Armstrong Whitworth in Newcastle and was initially allocated around the Midlands before moving to South Wales at the outbreak of the Second World War. It is here it could well have worked alongside one of our other Gala visitors no.1054.

No.6695 has visited the WSR a handful of times before, but this will be the engine's first visit away from it's home since overhaul. This will be the first visit by a 66XX in GWR livery to the WSR and she is sure to look the part paired with our restored GWR goods wagons.

And if that announcement wasn't enough, we have another surprise up our sleeves for you, to be revealed tomorrow!

Tickets are available to pre-book at a discounted rate at the link below.

An interesting description of visiting a handful of times - https://www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/news/view/6695-loco-group-and-wsr-agree-long-term-deal

You are right though, not the engine I thought.

6695 - wow! Wasnt this one of the locos that had its agreement ripped up and kicked off the railway a few years ago?

That's a very incorrectly dramatised version of events. The long term agreement was voided by mutual agreement due to the then issues with axle load limits for the line. It wasn't kicked off the railway, and there has never been any bad blood between the WSR PLC and 6695 Loco Ltd. With the excellent work done by the WSR Permanent Way team over the last few years, the axle load limit is being raised bit by bit as the worst rails are replaced, hence now at circa 19t (from memory), we can run 5600/6600 locos on the line.

They maybe aren't the most interesting locomotives out there. But seeing 6695 in the line up is really tempting me.

I was thinking of, from yesterday, "And if that announcement wasn't enough, we have another surprise up our sleeves for you, to be revealed tomorrow!"
    It's tomorrow today.
