This is hidden behind a pay wall, so I haven't read all of it, but the sub-headline reads that "the final location for Fire Queen has not been decided". Hopefully she'll get to stay at Penrhyn Castle as I can't think of an alternative relevant location apart from, possibly Llanberis.

It was owned by the National Museum Wales, obviously not a public body for the "British" Times.

I think you’re mistaken. The loco was on loan to the National Trust, at Penrhyn Castle, but remained in private ownership of the family trust of Sir John Smith (once MP for Westminster, and founder of the Landmark Trust) who bought it from Dinorwic in the 1960s. It has now been donated to the nation in lieu of tax.

I wonder what value the landed gentry put on it for tax purposes?
I have a few rare mamods, but can’t find the right box on my self assessment form!
I must write to my MP

Fire Queen has arrived at Aberystwyth for temporary display in the Vale of Rheidol Railway Museum building.

Eventually it's due to return to Gilfach Ddu for display in "it’s original shed" which is due to be restored using levelling-up funding.

Reported as having arrived (with picture) on VoR's Facebook.

I had not previously heard of that locomotive, nor the narrow-gauge railway on which it ran.

The track gauge of 1145 mm appears to have been unique, and I wondered how it originated. It appears to have been almost exactly four Antwerp feet (according to Wikipedia, an Antwerp foot was 286.8 mm).
