I've a feeling I've seen this picture before but I've no idea about the detail. It looks like the aftermath of a runaway but, if that is all, how does it account for the displaced tank and other damage relatively high up?

A question regarding the coaching fleet. I stumbled across a video of the Polar Express on teh South Devon Railway, and one of the coaches was Bulleid 1456.

Is the coach there temporarily or has it left the MHR?

It looks as though there is a buffer wedged under the tank at the front

Just as excitingly, last night saw the first trains signalled through Medstead using the new system. Quite odd seeing a clear distant there for the first time in that location.

Can anyone clarify what is happening with the second Steam illuminations service, I have seen 41312 was being 'lit up' as 5239 is out of service. Will it be 41312 top and tailed with a diesel?

    Very interesting.
What is up with 5239 if there is another mystery loco arriving for the Steam illuminations services?

    Jaysus!!!!

It were right perishing atop the hill yesterday morn.:Cold::Cold::Cold:

Still, a hot breakfast roll from the bakers soon warmed up Muggin's 'ere and the five other like minded nutters who had decided that freezing thier bits off was much better than hiding under a nice warm duvet......... :confused:o_O:eek:

So after finally wresting ourselves from the warmth of the mess room, it was time to continue the battle with LMS van M517317......

One of our number carried on with the overhaul of the vac cylinder for the meat van..... even though it was too cold to be painting, some tricks of the trade were divulged. ;):)

Three others had the task of sorting out the external cladding plankson the north side country end that had bee put back wonky when they were removed some time ago to be trimmed, so that when we finally fit the internal cladding planks everyting should be uniform....... :Nailbiting:

That left Muggin's 'ere and his mucker to work out exactly how the replacement angle irons should straddle the new C section on the south side London end........ a simple enough task on paper, but anything but in reality - every time we thought we'd got things lined up to mark out, something slipped!!! :Arghh: :Arghh: :Banghead: :Banghead: :Banghead: What we really needed was a thrird pair of hands, which finally happened towards the end of the day, and before you knew it we had the C section and a template marked out for the angles we needed to hopefully make sure that when the new angles are cut they follow the same line from top to bottom......... they'd better, as we only get one shot at this!!! :Nailbiting:

By then the light was fading fast and the 20's had berthed in Bennett's as Thunderbird for the steamy lighty trains, but as much as we'd have liked to have stayed and seen the first up train, getting home and wrapping ourselves around a radiator to thaw out was more pressing!!! ;) :)

So in light of that (sic)

A few more shots of the day with 53808........

The vac cylinder for the meat van coming on a treat.

The external cladding planks on the north side going back up and sitting how they should.
