Today in Canada 26th April 2014 , CPR { CPKC } Hudson class No 2816 left Calgary on its trip to Mexico via the US with 14 cars , 3 tenders , 3 helper locos ....look out for videos of its trip

Edit , for info the Hydrogen powered unit in the consist was removed in Medicine Hat , Alberta and returned to its base in Calgary .

 

2816 on her journey south across the USA

 

Unfortunatly whilst travelling through a crowd in Mexico yesterday 2816 hit and killed a woman who got too close whilst trying to take a selfy. There are videos and links if you care to look. Official statement from CPKC awaited as to what next. Thoughts and prayers are with the crew and womans family

Having seen some of the photos and videos of its passage through Mexico, I'm not surprised. Thousands of people everywhere, standing on the opposite line as the train passes, climbing on the front of the loco when it stops.

 

So 2816 is now back in Canada - thus ends an epic journey by steam in 2024. Picture by Byron Fichter in Estevan Saskatchewan.....
