It’s due for overhaul so the owner could have saved some money and left it in the hideous lilac livery

So..... 47383 was never in Thomas blue but it carried it. 92214 was never green but its carried it. 35005 never carried BR blue in modified condition but it did. Its a coat of paint. Ive not long finished painting an LMS porthole composite in livery it never carried but one that rarely seen. Is that ficticious?

Yeah that’s very true. Or the paint which was in stock could have been used to put it in a temporary livery? And ultimately cost very little.

Repainting a loco is not at little cost.

Yes it is. Some LMS porthole coaches did appear in LMS livery so as a typical example of an LMS coach it seems reasonable, rather rest are just wrong

The porthole composites didnt carry any LMS livery. 24500, the protoype came out in a BTC livery with LMS lining and crimson body colour but with left hand numbers and sans serif 1s on the doors but nothing on the 3rd class doors.

The only running example has been painted in the above livery rather than be painted into a 1938ish livery. Out of all our LMS carriages, only 3 are correct. 7511, 2886 and 149. Technically 149 is incorrect as it should 9355, 7 1/2 bay TTO.

All 3 opens are wartime builds, 2300 ( 13045 ), 12992, 26880, 26986 and 26921 are all either postwar LMS or BR builds therefore the livery they are in is incorrect. We are looking at making subtle changes to the LMS livery over the next couple of years.

Alright I’ll put it this way….

    1) The Purple. Firstly the agreement to run it like that with the Jubilee Crests, etc was only allowed for 2022 and not beyond.
    2) The Purple. Following the passing of HM QE2 it was deemed inappropriate to even consider keeping it in those colours
    3) The Purple. Was a quick job. It was not lasting.
    4) The Black. Using paint in stock it was agreed the quickest and easiest and cheapest method.
    5) The Black. It had been scheduled in to the paint shop anyway and the painter likes to be kept busy.
    6) The Black. It was a damn site cheaper than green and the owner isn’t short of the funds!

Id give up arguing with him. He won’t accept your response.

He just needs to remember Clan Line is so perfectly heritage and preserved with air brakes and a MK2 brake in a fake livery!!!

Clan Line is not air braked. The Mk2 in Pullman livery isn’t my choice but I think Belmond would prefer a matching set of coaches. I’ve learnt something about LMS porthole coaches.

Taw Valley is not my choice nor yours but I think the Owner would prefer the cheaper black paint job.

And the locomotive has the capability of working an air brakes train which is did not do back in BR days. So if all your arguments above are about fiction is things, so is 28

There is a big difference between adapting a locomotive for mainline running on the modern railway with minimal visual impact and deliberately ignoring history as with Can Pac in blue an d the Green 9F on the GC. The grey area is with the LMS coach and 60103, the former is an LMS design and only a happening in 1948 prevented it being finished as it now is. FS never ran as an A3 with single chimney as 4472 or even 103 but in its former guise it did represent an A3 in typical 1930s condition.
The only loco on the mainline in entirely as built condition is 60163 of course. The best restorations to as near as built condition as possible must be 5025 on the Strathspey Railway and 13968 nearing completion on the Valley

To provide air for working air braked trains, it also has a combined driver’s brake valve in the cab. The engine is steam braked and the tender is vacuum, just as it was in BR days. If it days on the main line ever come to an end everything done is quite easily reversible.

Oh John for goodness sake give over!!!

I notice you failed to respond to my comment above so I’ll copy it to here. If you can’t understand the reasons then you’re clearly just not trying to.

It’s actually even more simple…..We are a railway that needs cash. The purple brought us a significant amount of that in, and you know what people have come to see the black too! So worth it….Absolutely!

I’m well aware that it was a special case, I was talking in general
