A note to anyone about tomorrow and Saturday, there's a flypast by the Red Arrows on both days (17.30 and 12.00 at Highley respectively) and a Lancaster on Saturday (14.15 Highley).

“During the Second World War the bridge formed part of Western Command Stop Line No 1, which followed the River Severn from Tewkesbury to Llandrinio, and was protected by infantry trenches and a movable steel and concrete railblock”

No problem, I've edited the post to include a link.

During the Second World War Eymore Farm was a base for the local Home Guard, and there were trench positions nearby for guarding Victoria Bridge. It was accessed from Trimpley Private Road Bridge (Bridge 14, milepost 140¼) which now carries the private access road from Trimpley Waterworks to Trimpley Reservoir over the railway.

Both these nuggets have been included in the SVR Wiki.

No real surprises, but with discussions on Nat Pres about structure and charities I thought I'd share the following from SVR (Holdings) plc's annual accounts on a possible future state:

Something suggested a little while ago and not progressed I think. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

I seem to recall there was a suggestion of restructuring in the emergency video put out a couple of months ago: maybe the times are more propitious.

Interestingly the NYMR appear to be very much promoting their charitable status and aims at the present time, and evolving how the railway goes foreward following those aims.

I understand it was proposed a couple of years ago as being necessary.

I thought it was interesting to read in Branch Lines....

"A question was asked as to whether the SVRH board had considered selling assets to raise funds to reduce the debt, eg the Black Five locomotive and BR Mk1 carriages. Managing director Gus Dunster explained that the sale of assets is ‘absolutely on the radar’, and that the business model for heritage railways must change if they are to remain viable. "

Not really sure it’s interesting, more just standard practice for any business that needs to maintain a viable business going forward. Ultimately if it was between making a sale or no railway, I’d take making a sale.

I agree with Harry to be honest. As much as 45110 has been home at the SVR for a long while, I'd rather have the railway to succeed in selling things in order to raise funds then to leave them alone and potentially go in debt.

It's a massive balancing act and a hard decision every line has to make. Also if it did get sold and was restored quicker than it would be if it went into the SVR workshops (due to timescale, other projects and priorities) then it wouldn't necessarily be so bad. It can always come back on hire or for galas.

Of course. It probably won't go down well with some. But everywhere has to make ends meet and if it means selling stuff then they have to.

45110 is historically significant and any sale should be a last resort, as any change of ownership presents an element of risk for a locomotive. The amount of cash raised probably would not be huge in the scheme of things, so I would hope other avenues would be exhausted first - however, I agree a sale may speed it's return to steam. Just look at the amount of work 4930 has completed to see how far up the priority list it will be..

    Mr Riley...?!?
