And where do you propose taking it on that narrow gauge railway? In the Bluebell case, it went to Buckinghamshire, about 100 miles away. You’ve just proposed baking in massive capital costs to build another narrow gauge railway and all the transshipment costs when that peters out in a field miles from the final location of the waste.

Well, I wasn't thinking that far afield - just from the Bridges N of WB to Dean Steep, until the route through Parracombe is clear...

I think the environment agency might have something to say about that plan …

In the 'Trackside Magazine' which came this morning (late because it was published on Good Friday !) it says the NWNGR/WHR engine 'Russell' is planned for the September Gala. Am I alone in being surprised to read such news for the first time in a monthly magazine ?

But..with respect, that was NOT what the OP was talking about :)

He wrote "...a holding road for a second engine to back down onto the train, and return north, turn and turn about..." which IMHO means one engine comes in with the train, a different one takes it back out. NOT the same thing as 'shunt release'.

In any case, how will you do a shunt release if there is no platform onto which the passengers can alight while the empty stock is being shunted - and on a gradient too ?

There was(lol) planning to deal with the fill at Killington Lane in the stone depot and one of the trustees talked of taking the fill out by light rail to reduce lorry miles

I have a first hand account of this being the case from someone I know in the industry when they wanted to fill in a cutting. The red tape was unbelievable. But then on the flip side "embankment strengthening" i.e. tipping spoil is a perfectly normal thing to do. Watching videos of trains doing just that on heritage railways is one of my favorite Youtube rabbit holes. I don't really understand what the difference is between the two situations except a load of paperwork and the name.

In related news finding the extra stock and a suitable locomotive to haul it would be exceptionally easy if the right person was asked :):D

It depends what the material being moved about is. Inert material fine. Clearing old landfill with various materials….not so easy. Some materials have to go to licensed sites

It was rumoured locally that most of the fill was from the Lynmouth flood disaster, it was also mentioned to me by the lorry driver delivering ballast to Snapper that older drivers had told him stone from landslips on the Watersmeet road was dumped in the cuttings around Parracome too but no doubt there will be farm animal remains and all sorts of rubbish the further you go down, pre 90s no one really cared what went in a viable space to get rid of farm waste

Having now seen that the CIC directors list has been updated on companies house , for those of you who thought an earlier post of mine was 'cryptic' it can be mentioned that Anne Belsey has had no option but to resign as a director of the L&BR CIC before she was forced out, obviously what she had to say was a little too close to home for some, maybe the old guard don't like being criticized by a woman or maybe she just hit the nail on the head, she has invested a lot of time effort and money into the railway including OSHI and Charles Whytock and remarkably has chosen not to walk away from the railway after the way she was treated.
Whilst on the companies house page i looked at the Blackmoor company and despite being told of the appointment of 4 new directors they don't seem to have been registered yet, maybe they will appear once the deal has been completed

Can you explain why you think Anne "had no option but to resign as a director of the L&BR CIC before she was forced out"? You speculate a couple of reasons but don't offer any evidence to back them.

Isn’t that the heart of this issue? If records don’t exist, then doesn’t the worst need to be assumed until proven false?

Hopefully she will be standing for a position as a trustee this year and doesn't want a 'black mark' against her name from being removed by the other directors of the CIC, and i havent speculated, im aware of the circumstances and how certain directors rounded on her, as i mentioned in a previous post 'the old guard flexing their muscle' and i stand even more so by my comment that they really are rotten to the core

It was also rumoured that the cutting on the national park side of the road was full of cars/scrap from the old garage but according to the results of the test holes dug for the trust nothing was found

With the course of action she has taken, her options would have been fairly obvious. You personal comments are your choice, it would be great to see the evidence
