KWVR succeeds because it knows what suits its market hence caters for it. Another benefit is that - like the SVR - it appreciates the local area and its history hence has become part of the local community; it knows what it can do and it does it well.

It’s also done something quite special, and managed to consolidate and maintain itself without feeling the need to expand.

I’m sure that’s helped by having the whole branch and no obvious expansion potential, but the society deserve credit for doing this over so long.

It's so annoying that the first train from Oxenhope on the Saturday is ECS until Haworth. There must be an operational reason for it. I know.

I assume the stock is coming straight out of the sidings at Oxenhope.

Not sure why it's annoying - to start your day at Oxenhope, I assume you were planning to drive there, so can't you just drive to Haworth instead?

Oxenhope - Howarth is hardly the greatest thrash. Unless you like the sound of brake blocks on wheels!

Annoying if you didn't want to pay to park at Haworth and like to finish the day on the last run. There we go. Not sure why I needed to explain that. Watching the 5s leave Haworth from the bridge will be good, too.

There is a bus from Oxenhope at 8.12 which gets you to Haworth station for 8.21. There’s also an earlier one at 7.12 if you are worried the connection is to tight. Fares are currently capped at £2 for a single so that’s the maximum cost although I believe the fare between the two is actually around £1. Even at the maximum capped price it’s hardly a bank breaker and possibly the answer to your problem.

    Or it's a simple 30 minute walk.

To be honest, it's not nearly so annoying now that I understand the reason. It just seemed an odd thing to do but not reversing the train into the platform does make sense.

Am I right in thinking that on the T/T locos in brackets will be on the REAR of the
working they are listed for - Thanks in anticipation

They are the locos that are being attached or detached at Haworth Loop. If they're listed underneath the other loco, they'll be at the rear. Otherwise, the loco on the "Trailing locomotive" line of the timetable will be on the back.

The normal arrangement is that the attached locos (going to Keighley) go on front of the train loco and the detached locos (going to Oxenhope) detach from the rear of the train.

I've never seen that happen at the KWVR. Locos that are detaching from the train on the way to Oxenhope have always come off the front of the train and will be doing so at this gala.

Since when have locos detached from the rear ,rather than piloting to Haworth loop ?
Never witnessed in the 48 years I’ve been going .

Same in my 25 years of going. I've rarely missed a gala since the one with 75014 in 1998. I'm guessing that this just isn't worded very well.

45407 running light through Burrs today. At least 2 returns to Ramsbottom. Hopefully all was well and it will make it for the Gala.
