Excellent. Just checking! I'll have to pay a visit to the Swanage in the near future to have a ride behind 6695, as I haven't had one on the WSR...

Are they diverting service trains this time like they used to do in the 60's .
It was always a thrill to get a diverted Cardiff to Portsmouth train hauled by a U class from Romsey & then go the wrong way via Eastliegh to the works open day . - happy days

Ha ha - Cheers Stewie. I think you know what I meant tho? I meant from outside Eastleigh station main entrance? I guess there will be signs I would imagine on the day?

Glad you took it in the spirit it was intended! Yes, you turn left out of the station, then left again (Campbell Road) and you're pretty much there. 5 minutes for most people, 10 at most I would say.

Yep I got the gist of you're post - I just laughed when I read it... I think I have a fair idea where it is exactly - Although being that it might get very much packed on the day/s it might be alot longer than 10 mins - I may have to get there extra early.... And then a sprint to the finish....

Maybe but running on the MHR is better than no running and maybe it gets into the issue of more running on mhr less work required due to the speed restriction
You may have a point... But Bittern and her owner wants her to go more mainline to get the revenue back. But I think we should discuss this somewhere else as this is aimed at the Eastleigh 100 - Which i am hoping to be there for.... I hope it's like the woking one??
To be pedantic three, he also owns 5029 Nunney Castle.

Walking time for train crews was 15 minutes between station and the (now DBS) depot further down Cambell Road.

Only if 579 points (Test Valley facing connection) fail at Redbridge like they did this morning! It took a minute or two to realise what was happening when I saw a FGW 158 passing Eastleigh this morning...

As for a "U" class I don't remember them around here. I'd be quite happy with a Hymek and 6 mark 1's.

Cheers, Neil

Judging by what I've read I think Eastleigh100 will outdo Woking by quite a margin.
Woking was great in that we used the M7 on those Guildford shuttles. Amazing what could be done by BR and what can't be done (or so easily at any rate) under the 'freedom' of privatisation.

I think there is every possibility of Woking being outdone - but then I am biased, being one of the organisers. Privatisation has thrown up some challenges but talking them through with the various parties in the rail industry has helped us overcome them.

There is every possibility that there may be more than 40 steam, diesel and electric locos on site during the weekend. A full list of confirmed exhibits will appear in the June-dated Railway Magazine out on May 6, but there may be the odd late change or two.

If anyone on the forum is thinking of coming to the event, Saturday is well on the way to a sellout, so best look at Sunday or Monday.

If railtour organisers sell entry tickets to their patrons I hope tickets have been set aside.

If not, one or more crimes have been committed !

Can I confirm that that is running on the Sunday and Mondy of the event, only it is far easier for me to get to SAP than Eastleigh?

The only services that dont normally call at Eastleigh are up/down Wemouth services.
XC have no plans to call additionally....yet...

If travelling on XC alight at Winchester for a 5 min wait for connecting service to Eastleigh.

Just outside Eastleigh station is the usual town amenities (food, drink cash tills etc).

Bout a 7 - 10 min walk to the Works entrance

Operators of all three railtours have their tickets ring-fenced - and this has always been the case.

Access to the event for tour participants will be through one side of gate 1, specially designated for pre-paid ticket holders. Shuttle buses will run on all three days of the event and cover SAP station - the buses will be free, but donations will be welcome.

The next issue of The Railway Magazine will include the latest details of exhibits (more have been added), the event itself, and a map of the site.
